Christmas movies were once reserved for the classics. It’s A Wonderful Life, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, White Christmas, A Christmas Story, and others were on repeat year after year as families bonded over cherished holiday standards. In recent years, however, streaming has greatly expanded the Christmas movie universe.
To be fair, the glut of Christmas movies equates to a lot of very mediocre, low-budget films. However, it doesn’t matter; they are Christmas movies, and people can’t get enough. While Hallmark and Lifetime are two of the biggest names in holiday fare, an upstart network helmed by a Christmas movie standard is making waves.
Great American Media is the latest player in the Christman movie wars, and they have just announced their holiday lineup. The network, led by Christian star Candace Cameron Bure, began its marathon on October 13 and will run through December 23.
The network is airing 20 films, with the first being titled “Destined 2: Christmas Once More”. Bure took to social media recently, saying the lineup is “the most heartwarming holiday experience on television.” it should be noted that Bure left the Hallmark Channel in 2022 after objecting to the proliferation of woke themes in the films.
Bure is a devout Christian and sought to produce films minus the woke themes and special-interest narratives. She is the chief creative officer with Great American Media and is now free to produce the wholesome family entertainment she desires.
The Full House star accepted an executive role at GAC Media in April last year to help create family-friendly entertainment programming for the channels GAC Family and GAC Living. She recently said about her decision to join the company: “I am constantly looking for ways that I can inspire people to live life with purpose. GAC fits my brand perfectly; we share a vision of creating compelling, wholesome content for an audience who wants to watch programming for and with the whole family.”
Bure ruffled leftist feathers last November when she ran afoul of the woke mob by saying she has no plans to include LGBTQ storylines in the Christmas movies made by Great American Media. While this should have been a simple enough decision, the woke mob still attacked the network and the Christian star.
Bure said about the decision: “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core.” She also threw in a message for her critics: she has “a simple message: I love you anyway.”
It’s unfortunate that conservative Christians like Bure have to undergo such harsh criticism for their beliefs. Mainstream media, films, music, and television are packed with leftist narratives and forced diversity, and Hollywood receipts and television ratings show that most Americans are done with virtue signaling.
Bure is one of the few to take a stand and say “no more.” Her decision to produce old-school, wholesome, family holiday movies without content that might make parents have an uncomfortable conversation is brave, even if the left is excoriating her as some sort of a bigot.
The popularity of the new network shows that people are indeed desiring what Bure is offering, and Christians can tune into the channel for wholesome Christmas fare without all of the questions.
