Elon Musk has become a master at trolling the far-left. Musk, once the darling of the liberal, ultra-progressive Democrat party, has avoided the hard turn liberals took when President Donald Trump took office. The Tesla-driving, Space X-worshiping coastal elites quickly abandoned Musk when it became clear he wasn’t going to simply toe the party line and roll with whatever approved narrative the left was pushing any given day.
As the left has continued to excoriate the Tesla CEO for his personal views, it has only caused him to push back harder. Since his purchase of Twitter, which he renamed “X,” the platform has reverted back to a more open exchange of ideas and opinions instead of the liberal cesspool of controlled narratives and forced thought that it had become.
Musk also regularly trolls liberals on X, including Hollywood celebs, irritating some to the point of threatening to get rid of their Teslas and leave X. Few do, which ultimately only stokes Musk’s fire.
Now, Elon Musk is choosing a new target for his latest hilarious troll project. Recently, Musk mocked the open-source Wikipedia, offering to give them $1 billion dollars if they change their name. Wikipedia, which can be altered or edited by anyone at any time, regularly solicits donations to keep the site free.
Musk not only questioned the site’s neutrality in terms of taking sides politically, but he also took them to task for the extreme possibilities of blatant misinformation due to their open sourcing. Musk made the absurd offer with the suggested new, hilarious name. He said he would “give them a billion dollars if they change their name to Dickipedia. In the interests of accuracy.”
The left immediately melted down over the sophomoric yet hilarious joke from the Space X head. However, that initial barb was only the beginning of a longer, more serious string of comments and questions for the site. He continued: “Have you ever wondered why the Wikimedia Foundation wants so much money? It certainly isn’t needed to operate Wikipedia. You can literally fit a copy of the entire text on your phone! So, what’s the money for? Inquiring minds want to know …”
Part of Musk’s beef with the often erroneous Wikipedia is how the site appears to be biased at times, especially in terms of political issues. He said: “Wikipedia is inherently hierarchical and therefore subject to the biases of higher ranking editors, independent of their merits.”
Musk went on to compare and contrast Wiki to his own “Community Notes” on X, which allows users to have a consensus vote on whether new information and corrections are published. He continued: “@CommunityNotes requires people with historically different points of view, based on how they have rated and written Notes, to agree in order for Notes to be shown to the public. All code and data is open source, so you can recreate the outcome yourself.”
Community Notes relies on user submission and consensus votes before allowing a correction on a post. This has become a crucial tool in the quest to weed out misinformation and controlled narratives from the left. While Wikipedia allows anyone to edit an entry, even Musk himself can’t change one on X. Elon added: “Crucially, even I, as the controlling shareholder of the company, cannot change the outcome of a Note. This is an extremely fundamental difference.”
It is unclear whether Wikipedia will take the money and the “d,” but what is clear is that most serious people don’t rely on the site for accurate, unbiased information. Musk is simply making sure people know that X is a much more trustworthy source of information than Wikipedia. That might make liberals mad, but they are always welcome to complain about it on X.
