A subdivision in Texas’ Polk County went from being quite in the middle of the night to the scene of a home invasion and shooting when a male suspect tried breaking into one of the Indian Springs Subdivision homes and was met not with screams from the fearful residents but instead with gunfire from the armed homeowner.
That alleged home invader was shot in the head during the altercation yet somehow managed to make it away from thee scene of the shooting, getting two miles in his vehicle before stopping. He was flown to the hospital and not only survived, despite being shot in the head, but was released within just hours.
Such is what the Polk County Sheriff’s Office announced in a press release posted to Facebook. Beginning, the sheriff’s department said, “On October 18, 2023, at approximately 12:18 am, Deputies and Detectives with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the Indian Springs Subdivision, of Eastern Polk County. The Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a homeowner, to report that a male subject was trying to enter the front door to his residence. An altercation ensued, resulting in the male subject being shot in the head.”
Continuing, the statement added, “Deputies located the male subject and his vehicle, approximately 2 miles from the homeowner’s residence. First Responders immediately had the subject flown out to a Harris County hospital and he was then released within a few hours, with non-life threatening injuries.”
The statement then said, “Interviews were conducted and evidence was collected at the scene to assist Detectives in determining how the incident occurred and what role both the male subject and homeowner played in the incident. The events surrounding this incident are still currently under investigation. This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. No further at this time.”
This isn’t the first burglary attempt to strike Polk County in recent days. In fact, in the Facebook post released just before the notice of the home invasion attempt and shooting, the same sheriff’s office said, “The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the assistance of the public in obtaining information in regards to the Burglary of a business on US HWY 59 in Moscow during the early morning hours of Friday October 13, 2023. An unknown suspect entered the business around 4:00AM through the roof then stole a large amount of cash from a money machine and the safe from the office.”
Continuing, that post added, “If you have any information in reference to this case that may help with the investigation, please contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at (936) 327-6810.
