Recently, Florida Governor and Republican primary candidate Ron DeSantis outlined his approach to pro-Hamas foreign students if elected president in 2024. DeSantis claimed he would cancel visas and deport foreigners in question who demonstrate support for America’s adversaries.
The Florida Governor also addressed the rampant, out-of-control illegal immigration that has occurred under the Biden administration, emphasizing the importance of getting the southern border under control while controlling who enters the country.
“Day one, it’s going to be a national emergency,” he said. “And I think what this terrorist attack in Israel has shown us is we’re vulnerable from all the people that have come illegally because they have come from Iran too. It’s not just Mexico, Central America; Russia, China, Middle East, all that stuff.”
Drawing on the horrific attack on Israel that claimed thousands of lives, Gov. DeSantis illustrated the importance of keeping terrorism off domestic soil. The Republican primary candidate called out the various university demonstrations in support of Hamas that have occurred across the nation, claiming any non-American who partakes in such acts would be deported under his administration.
“But I think what we also saw when the blood wasn’t even dry on the Israelis who had been massacred, you had people in America going out protesting in favor of Hamas,” he said. “And that’s like, very chilling. Some of these people are not U.S. citizens, they’re [on] student visas. So as president, if you’re on a student visa, and you’re a foreigner, and you’re out there celebrating terrorism, I’m canceling your visa and I’m sending you home.”

DeSantis also explained how he would take direct action in securing the southern border with Mexico by deploying the U.S. military while sending illegal immigrants back to the country they came from. The Florida Governor also claimed he would combat drug cartels with the force of the U.S. military by considering them terrorist organizations.
The American Tribune recently reported on comments from DeSantis to prevent the importation of Palestinian refugees into the United States. He claimed allowing this demographic to resettle in the American interior would lead to heightened levels of antisemitism. DeSantis also took the opportunity to further denounce the outward display of support for Hamas in the statement.
“I think if we were to import large numbers of those to the United States, I think it would increase antisemitism in this country. And I think it would increase anti-Americanism in this country. And that’s something after seeing those demonstrations pop up in our country, just with bloods still flowing amongst Israeli citizens over the weekend — you had people taking to the streets cheering on the barbarism of Hamas in our own country. That was a chilling thing to see. And I don’t think that that’s something that we should ever think is acceptable,” he said.
Gov. DeSantis also ordered an airlift to rescue nearly 300 Americans who were stranded in Israel following the deadly attack from Hamas. He simultaneously slammed the Biden administration’s State Department for what he deemed an insufficient response to the crisis.
