Christy could be seen celebrating as she shouts, “It’s a million dollars, It’s a million dollars! Oh My God!”
The real total of the jackpot before taxes came out to nearly $1.2 million. For Christy, this fun day at the casino turned into far more than just recreation as she won life-changing money at the push of a button.
Christy’s Facebook lists off the greatest accomplishment of her career, saying, “Record Holder – Fastest Woman in a Nascar at Bonneville Salt Flats 208MPH.” This feat was groundbreaking in 2008 as it took place before star racer Danica Patrick made it clear that women were capable of racing in NASCAR.
Speaking to KLAQ, she shared some memories of that record-breaking ride. A late bloomer in racing, Christy wasn’t interested in the sport until she was 20. “I was never into racing until I went and bought a dirt bike…Sherman Barnett owned Yamaha of El Paso and I just ended up buying a bike from him with the stipulation that he would teach me how to ride it. We have now been married for 42 yrs and we also race together.”
Speaking about the genesis of the idea for her to break the female NASCAR speed record, she said, “A gentleman here locally had a friend who had a Nascar Busch team in Indiana. For 2 years they hired a Nascar driver to try and qualify for the Brickyard 400Â race. They named the team Race El Paso, allowing people to pay to sign their names on the cars as sponsors. The 3rd year they decided to try and break the land speed record at Bonneville. They called me and asked me to drive it because they wanted a local driver and a female. I ended up doing it and we let people sign the car and got local businesses to sponsor.”
This massive win of hers at the slots machine is a $1.2 million dollar haul. Most impressively, it isn’t even close to the coolest thing that she has done in her life. Talk about living life to the fullest.
