As more and more illegal immigrants and migrants flood into the sanctuary city of Chicago, Illinois, whether heading there on their own or sent there by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the residents of the deep blue city are beginning to wake up to the problem wrought by illegal immigration.
Such could be sen in a recent poll of likely Chicago voters conducted by polling firm M3 Strategies, which found that the city’s residents are sick and tired of the sanctuary city policy and are ready for it to be gone rather than continued.
Speaking on the poll’s results, M3 Strategies Pollster Matt Podgorski said, “A majority of Chicagoans prefer to end sanctuary city versus keep it.” Continuing, he noted that Podgorski said 46% of those polled said there should be no more sanctuary city policy, a minority of 39% said Chicago should remain such a city, and 14% of those likely voters polled were unsure.
Commenting on the scale of the poll and how it was conducted, Podgorski said, “It was 600+ likely voters. The method was SMS to web, all text message and web-based surveys, and we polled only folks who voted in the most recent municipal election.”
Continuing, he noted that the white liberals in the city are the main demographic block behind keeping the policy, whereas minorities, who it can be assumed have to deal with more of the fallout of the policy, are much more interested in scrapping it. He said, “White voters actually prefer to keep it as a sanctuary city by a 10-point majority, whereas minority voters overwhelmingly wanted to end sanctuary city as it is today.”
The fallout from the illegal immigration situation is serious enough that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson announced that he would be visiting the border to see the situation for himself. He said, “We need to go assess the situation. This is serious. And I’ve been saying it. I mean this ain’t the first time you’ve heard me say how serious this dynamic is.”
Continuing, he added, “So, going to the border is to make sure that everybody knows that my administration is committed to making sure that we are putting together the full force of government at every single level to ensure that these families, who, by the way, they’re not illegal, they’re asylum seekers, they are protected by international law.”
He also blamed Texas Governor Greg Abbott for shipping the migrants to Chicago, saying, “Based upon our interactions thus far. It is becoming increasingly clear that those who want to disrupt our democracy are committed to doing that; it’s a real mission of theirs. And so our hope is that we will continue to get more resources and a stronger commitment from the federal government to be able to provide us with the support that the people of Chicago need.”
Gov. Abbott, for his part, recently announced, “Texas has bused over 50,000 migrants to sanctuary cities to provide relief to overwhelmed border towns. These cities experience a fraction of what Texas border communities face daily. Busing will continue until Biden secures the border.“
