The Southern border is a sieve. Since Joe Biden took office and promptly put up the proverbial “open for business” sign, record numbers of illegal immigrants have crossed into our country. These aren’t just Mexicans or families fleeing tyranny either. Vast numbers of Chinese nationals, folks from Middle Eastern countries, and Eastern Europeans have also been noted coming into the country.
Little is being done to stem the flow, as border patrol has been effectively neutered, and in some cases, what’s left of the physical barrier has been welded open for all to enter. In response, border states have been sending large numbers of undocumented immigrants to so-called sanctuary cities, overrunning their resources and prompting liberal mayors to clap back against the Biden Administration.
As the situation continues to degrade, the American people and even some in the Democratic party are pushing back against the open border policy of Joe Biden. This week, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy once again flummoxed White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre with questions about the border situation.
Republicans, as well as some Democrats, have repeatedly criticized Joe Biden’s reversal of former President Donald Trump’s highly successful border policies. Since he took office, there have been historic levels of illegal crossings, and fentanyl is killing nearly 100,000 Americans a year.
As Doocy was getting ready to ask Jean-Pierre about the thousands of illegal migrants that showed up at Eagle Pass, Texas, last week, KJP countered the question with one of her own. The result was both people shouting at each other and the question being totally avoided by a visibly irritated White House Press Secretary.
It isn’t unusual for Jean-Pierre to avoid questions and redirect the conversation whenever possible, but in this instance, she simply shouted down Doocy and moved on. Earlier in the week, she also had problems answering NBC White House reporter Peter Alexander when he pressed her on the request from Homeland Security for new Southern barriers, including further will construction.
Biden has long maintained that there would be no more wall built and that he believed it doesn’t do any good, yet this week waived 26 federal laws in South Texas to make way for roughly 20 miles of wall construction. When asked about his reversal, Jean Pierre was left without answers. She said: “Well, we believe — so, first of all, he was asked, ‘Do you believe…’ — let me get the exact — ‘Do you believe…’ — by your colleague Selina here — ‘Do you believe the border wall works?’ He said, ‘No.’ Right? He answered that directly.”
Clearly at a loss, Jean-Pierre continued to stammer and talk in circles. She continued: “And so, we’ve been very clear. The President has very clear about this. He doesn’t believe — believe the border wall is effective, and that has not changed. That has not changed.” In a desperate attempt to spin the President’s failures at the border, she also said: “Since May, we have returned — we have returned — or, sent away or sent back more than 300,000 migrants who came here undocumented. And so, that is — shows that — our commitment to the border and that shows a commitment in making sure that we tried to work in a system that is broken.”
It is a thankless job to be press secretary, especially when you are the face of a failing administration. Karine Jean-Pierre isn’t particularly adept at the position, and when pressed by the media, often resorts to shouting, word salad, and simply lying as opposed to offering real answers. It is just another example that voting has consequences.
