A survivor of Mao’s vicious and bloody Cultural Revolution has seen and taken issue with Hillary Clinton’s recent argument that those Republicans who remain supporters of former President Donald Trump might need to be “deprogrammed,” saying that such a comment is abhorrent and leads to the horrors of the Cultural Revolution.
That survivor is Xi Van Fleet, who was born in China and managed to survive the Cultural Revolution, which led to millions, if not tens of millions, of deaths. After finally making her way to America, Ms. Van Fleet has remained a staunch defender of liberty and has worked tirelessly to educate Americans on the horrific events of the Cultural Revolution.
Such is what Ms. Van Fleet did in a recent op-ed for Fox News Digital, writing that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton seemed to call for government-backed “deprogramming” of Trump supporters, writing, “In a recent CNN interview, former Secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton called for “formal deprogramming” of what she terms as the “MAGA cult.” Formal? Did she mean government-sponsored deprogramming?”
For reference, Clinton said, “so many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure. He’s only in it for himself. He’s now defending himself in civil actions and criminal actions.” She then added, “You know, because at some point, maybe there needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members, but something needs to happen.”
Ms. Van Fleet blasted Hillary for those comments in the op-ed, connecting the call to the Chinese bloodbath that was the Cultural Revolution and writing, “The left means serious business. This is how the “enemies of the state” should be dealt with: deprogram and suppression. And this is exactly what happened in China, the country controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) where I spent the first 26 years of my life.”
Then, after describing the Cultural Revolution in all its sickening detail and noting that “deprogramming” is really just a way for tyrants to reprogram their subjects, turning them into slaves of the state, wrote, “Where does “programming” take place? It takes place in the mind-shaping institutions like schools and universities for the young, and mass media for the rest. The Chinese rightists were those who received their education before the CCP took over China. In their mind were the traditional values.”
Finally, after explaining how what the left is pushing for, if not already doing, matches with what the Chinese communists did, Ms. Van Fleet said that the current fight in America is a battle for the minds of American citizens and that defeat could mean the destruction of American values, perhaps permanently.
She wrote, “The Cultural Revolution in America is, after all, a war over the minds of the American people. The question is, what program will win: traditional American values enshrined in our Constitution and Declaration of Independence or progressive values rooted in cultural Marxism and communism.“
