The list of celebrities who have fled California is impressive. However, it isn’t just celebrities. Major corporations have also been running away from Gavin Newsome’s crumbling state in record numbers, costing the state precious tax revenue. Who could blame them? Soft-on-crime policies, as well as insane regulations, have made it unprofitable and nearly impossible to remain in the state.
Once the playground of the rich and famous and the destination for aspiring stars, California has become an apocalyptic hellscape of crime, high taxes, and government overreach. Now, another former ‘A” list star and beloved child actress is talking about how good life is outside of the Golden Coast.
Actress Danica McKellar of “The Wonder Years” is the latest celebrity to seek life outside of California. The 48-year-old star follows Mark Wahlberg, Joe Rogan, Mathew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Chris Hemsworth, Rosario Dawson, Elon Musk, and scores of others who have left liberal California and found happiness in red states.
While many have chosen Texas, Nevada, and Florida, McKellar chose Tennessee and couldn’t be happier. Recently, in an interview, she gushed about the Volunteer State: “Tennessee is a total quality of life improvement. It’s gorgeous, I love the seasons.”
McKellar grew up in Southern California and has embraced the climate and lifestyle of the south. She continued: “I grew up in Southern California and I love LA, and I love California. But I have to say, the seasons are really something else. I love watching the leaves change colors, and I love it when it gets cold. And I love when it’s really hot, humid. Maybe it’s some sort of honeymoon period. I’ve been there about a year now, but I love all the seasons.”
As Mark Wahlberg and others have discovered, you don’t have to live in Hollywood anymore to be a working actor. Many movies are filmed in Canada and other locales in order to save on costs. That works well for McKellar and others. “I am just as busy in Tennessee as I was in Los Angeles because so much of everything that I do is virtual, online, preparing for projects. I shoot my movies mostly in Canada. But I like to say that my view out the window is a lot prettier. And when I have to drive some place, it’s just a gorgeous drive.”
McKellar, who famously portrayed Winnie Cooper in the much-loved “Wonder Years,” now focuses mostly on Hallmark movies and has also appeared on “Dancing With the Stars.” She also has found her faith and is good friends with outspoken Christian Candace Cameron Bure.
Danica credits her friendship with Bure for helping to strengthen her faith. She said: “I would not say I’ve embraced religion so much as relationship. I’ve found my faith, and it’s been an amazing life changer. I have this sense that everything’s going to be fine in a way that I never really had before. I am so grateful to Candace Cameron Bure for bringing me into this era of my life. She really had a lot to do with it. Also my dad. He’s been a believer for a long time. It’s just been a beautiful, beautiful gift, and it feels so good, and I want everyone to have that feeling.”
Danica McKellar has discovered that there is life and work outside of California. She has also discovered her faith and life in Tennessee is looking good for her. She stands as another example of why celebrities are fleeing California and looking for a better life in a red state.
