Former ESPN star Sage Steele went on the defensive and slammed the ABC show “The View” on Bill Maher’s podcast recently, describing the show as ‘despicable’ and ‘full of it’ in terms of any viewpoint that strays from their liberal narrative. While that is a viewpoint many share, especially folks not aligned with the far left, it is still surprising coming from a former employee of perhaps the most liberal network in America.
Or is it? Sage Steele famously beefed with ESPN over numerous topics, ultimately resulting in her litigation with ESPN and the Disney corporation. Steele made numerous controversial comments about Barack Obama and about the COVID-19 vaccine, which caused her considerable grief with the “worldwide leader in sports.”
Steele, 50, recently settled her suits against ESPN, and in an appearance on Bill Maher’s show, “Club Random,” had some interesting comments when Maher suggested Steele should be on The View. When he suggested it, she replied: “Hell no. I’ve been on The View and It didn’t go so well. The show to me is despicable.”
Middle-of-the-road and conservative viewers, the few that they have, know that the ladies that host the show are the most hardcore of leftists. When they do have a true conservative on the show, they generally shout them down and browbeat them into submission while the cackling audience looks on.
Steele related her experiences on the show: ‘It didn’t go so well because you know what, at ‘The View,’ they don’t want your view. They only want theirs. They are bulls**t. They are fine telling lies on that stage in that set. Because they know that if someone calls them on it then they are just going to talk over them and have the audience clap and go to break. It makes me sad because the potential of the 20 years is incredible, and they have ruined it.”
Steele appeared on the show numerous times and has insight into how it operates. While ESPN and ABC both operate under the Disney umbrella, it didn’t prevent her from having negative experiences with the broadcast network show. She continued: “Having successfully settled my case with ESPN/Disney, I have decided to leave, so I can exercise my First Amendment rights more freely. I am grateful for so many wonderful experiences over the past 16 years and am excited for my next chapter!”
It should be recalled that Steele caught a mess when she made certain remarks about Barack Obama and COVID-19. She was ‘sidelined’ by the network for her opinions and sued the network for violating her free-speech rights.
On Jay Cutler’s podcast, Steele said of ESPN’s COVID shot mandate: “I respect everyone’s decision, I really do, but to mandate it is sick and it’s scary to me in many ways. But I have a job, a job that I love and, frankly, a job that I need.”
She also questioned Barack Obama’s decision to claim he was black on the US Census despite being raised by a white mother and grandmother. She said:’ I’m like, “Well, congratulations to the president. That’s his thing. I think that’s fascinating considering his black dad was nowhere to be found, but his white mom and grandma raised him, but hey, you do you. I’m going to do me.”
Naturally, the failing Disney corporation wasn’t pleased, and they punished Steele, who eventually got her revenge via the court system. It was a bad decision by Disney to punish a biracial woman for her opinions, even when they ran afoul of the company narrative. However, Steele has emerged unscathed while Disney founders.
