Rioters recently swept through Philadelphia, looting and severely damaging many businesses, particularly liquor and luxury goods stores, and forcing the closure of state-owned liquor stores in the city in a desperate attempt to tamp down on violence and looting. Now, Soros-funded Philly DA Larry Krasner is indicating he will go soft on those looters.
DA Krasner admitted as much when asked about the situation, saying that his office does not want to take dramatic action, and so will carefully examine each of the arrested individuals to determine if they are criminals or “fundamentally law-abiding people,” not explaining how someone looting an Apple store or robbing a liquor store could be “fundamentally law-abiding.”
He said that he and his office “will look carefully to see whether this is a one-off situation and they’re fundamentally law-abiding people hold them accountable one way or whether they are criminals, and they’re all about taking advantage of some sort of unrest for their own benefit, and they will be prosecuted another way.”
He also said, “We’re going to prosecute people in an even-handed way. We’re not going to let any judge – who thinks there is a caste system, and some people get better treatment than others – we’re not going to let any judge disturb the peace of this city.”
The Philadelphia Citizen notes that billionaire financier and funder of leftist causes George Soros poured more than a million dollars into getting Krasner elected as Philly’s DA, saying, “For instance, in Philadelphia, Soros provided approximately $1.7 million in funding for the first campaign of then-unknown defense attorney Larry Krasner, who won the splintered Democratic primary for district attorney with 38 percent of the vote in an election where only 17 percent of eligible voters turned out. Because winning the primary almost ensures victory in heavily Democratic Philadelphia, Krasner effectively won with the approval of less than 7 percent of eligible voters, at a rough cost of $33 per vote — a canny targeted investment by Soros. In smaller jurisdictions, Soros-related entities might make donations of $20,000 or $100,000 to swing the elections. Consistent with his background as an investor, Soros had found a way to bet relatively small amounts of money and achieve outsize returns.”
Similarly, PBS-affiliated WHYY noted the scale of that “investment” of Soros into Krasner’s campaign, saying, “Final campaign reports show Soros dropped another $211,000 late in the game, bringing his total spending on behalf of Krasner to nearly $1.7 million. For some perspective, that’s more than five times as much as Krasner himself spent — and nearly 30 percent of all the spending in the seven-candidate primary.”
Since his election, police groups and conservatives have argued that Krasner’s methods have led to a rise in crime in the city, as those caught committing crimes rarely get the harsh punishment that many on the right argue is necessary to reduce recidivism and deter others from committing crimes, particularly violent crimes.
Watch Krasner here, speaking on the matter during a pre-planned crime summit at St Joseph’s University:
