The NFL world is abuzz over the relationship between Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce and pop superstar Taylor Swift. It’s not just the NFL world. In fact, it is the entire world. Kelce’s podcast with his brother Jason went to number one immediately, and sales of Travis Kelce’s jersey have exploded as everyone wants a piece of the hottest new power couple.
The tilt on Sunday night between the hobbled Jets and the powerhouse Chiefs was highly anticipated before the season. Then, Aaron Rodgers shredded his Achilles tendon and the Jets season along with it. On Sunday night, the Jets fought valiantly as former first-round pick Zach Wilson seemed to get his legs under him and almost guided the Jets to the upset victory.
Ultimately, the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes were too much for the Jets to handle, and they lost to the Chiefs 23-20 with Taylor Swift and America looking on. The game was the most watched since last year’s Super Bowl, mainly on the back of the Kelce-Swift relationship.
Aaron Rodgers, the injured Jet quarterback and former Green Bay Packer, has never been shy about letting his true feelings be known. Whether the subject is football, vaccines, politics, or pop culture, Rodgers has an opinion and is sure to weigh in.
That is exactly what he did on the “Pat McAfee Show” this week after the loss to the Chiefs. he had some solid analysis of the game, and a hilarious nickname for a certain Swiftie. He said: “I think there’s some sentiment that there’s some sort of moral victory there. That we hung with the champs. And that our defense played well and Pat [Mahomes] didn’t have a crazy game. And Mr. Pfizer, we kind of shut him down a little bit. He didn’t have any crazy impact on the game, other than some yards and stuff.”
Rodgers is referring of course to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The star tight end is currently starring in a series of advertisements for Pfizer promoting the new Covid vaccine as well as the annual flu shot. In the ad he says: “With my schedule, saving time is key. The CDC says you can get this season’s updated COVID-19 shot when you get your flu shot if you’re due for both. That’s why I got two shots in one stop!”
Rodgers has been a staunch advocate against Covid vaccines, and has appeared on Joe Rogan, Pat McAfee and others to talk about his personal choices and his stance on vaccines. Rodgers even went as far as to make slightly misleading statements to the league in 2021, claiming he was “immunized.” While that claim was in fact true, it wasn’t specifically for Covid.
The subtle dig at Kelce, meanwhile, has gone viral and been viewed more than 7 million times, and has also been trending on “X.” During the course of the interview, when Rodgers made his comment McAfee couldn’t contain his laughter, even as Rodgers deadpanned his analysis of the Sunday night game. As audible laughter could be heard in the studio, Rodgers said: “I felt like for the most part we played really tough on defense the last three quarters and that was important for us.”
Even though the Packer great isn’t on the field, he is still entertaining fans off the field. Considering Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is all the sports media can talk about, Aaron Rodgers subtle dig at Kelce is welcomed comedic relief.
