Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy was recently removed from his position as Speaker of the House by a collection of conservatives led by Rep. Matt Gaetz and the Democrat members of the House, meaning the GOP now has to find someone else to fill the Speaker’s chair, with some GOP representatives wanting it to be Trump that steps in.
Who that will be, however, is unclear, as there are few people that the Gaetz contingent, moderate Republicans, and Democrats would agree on, which likely means a repeat of the January mess and more of a media circus.
Some Republicans, however, are intent on making Trump the Speaker. One such representative is Rep. Nehls, who just nominated former President Donald Trump. “Kevin McCarthy will NOT be running again as Speaker. I nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House,” Nehls announced on Twitter.

“This week, when the U.S. House of Representatives reconvenes, my first order of business will be to nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. President Trump, the greatest President of my lifetime, has a proven record of putting America First and will make the House great again,” Rep. Nehls added.
Rep. Greene then got involved and threw her support behind former President Trump for the Speaker’s chair, saying that he is the only candidate she is willing to support right now because of the populist domestic and foreign policies he would pursue.
“The only candidate for Speaker I am currently supporting is President Donald J. Trump. He will end the war in Ukraine. He will secure the border. He will end the politically weaponized government. He will make America energy independent again,” she said.
She continued, “He will pass my bill to stop transgender surgeries on kids and keep men out of women’s sports. He will support our military and police. And so much more! He has a proven 4 year record as President of the United States of America.”
Ending, Rep. Greene then said, “He received a record number of Republican votes of any Republican Presidential candidate! We can make him Speaker and then elect him President! He will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! 🇺🇸”

Rep. Jim Jordan, for his part, one of the likely candidates to follow McCarthy if Trump does not, has remained tepid on the Trump for Speaker idea. Speaking on the matter to Sean Hannity, he said, “He’d be great, but actually, I want Donald Trump to be the next president of the United States. If he wants to be speaker, great, but I want him to be president of the United States.”
Continuing, Rep. Jordan added, “I’ll be clear, he would still run for president. He’s still going to be running for president. That’s where we need him, is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, but if he wants to be speaker then that’s fine too.”
Jordan was similarly tepid on the removal of former Speaker McCarthy in the first place, saying, “I thought it was unfair to Kevin. Kevin, I think, has done a fine job and he and I came in together. He’s a good man, um, and he didn’t deserve this, in my judgment.”
