Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa spoke after Sunday’s football game about the impact that God and his Faith play on his gameday routine. While Tagovailoa is striving to be the best quarterback that he can be, he admitted that playing games on Sunday posed a special difficulty for him with the conflict that the National Football League poses with church.
Following the team’s week four loss to the Buffalo Bills, Tagovailoa kept his sights on what really mattered in the media room. He said, “The best thing about being a believer of Jesus Christ, to me, is that the Good Lord up above doesn’t care whether you win a game, whether you lose a game.”
He continued, “For me, it’s been a little tough having to play on Sundays. Having to understand that, you know, I’m not able to go to church. Really, a lot of it is having to watch church online after games.”
That kind of dedication to faith is something that has kept Tua going even in times that have been tough. The early parts of his NFL career were marred by injury, but he has continued fighting and persevering and believing and now he sees himself leading one of the most intriguing and exciting offenses in the league.
Tua also understands something that very few professional athletes seem to grasp. Along with all of the fame and rewards that come with being one of the greatest quarterbacks in the world, he has been blessed with a platform from which he can reach out to millions of young Americans. For Tua, that means that it is imperative to profess his faith on the regular.
Tua said, “But allowing me this platform, to me, is the best thing in the world to be able to profess my faith on something that I firmly believe in, something that’s been foundationally instilled in me at a young age.”
Tagovailoa went as far as to say that prayer plays a key roll in his routine during the game. Before taking the field to start a new series he takes time to pray. He does the same during stoppages in play. He is “praying all the time.”
That ability to stay thoughtful about his faith even during the intensity and high-dopamine inducing action of an NFL football game is something to be admired. Parents around the nation should be grateful that their children are able to look up to athletes like Tagovailoa and that children nationwide are trying to emulate him to become better versions of themselves.
Isn’t this incredible!!!
Tua used his spotlight to give his TESTIMONY on his love for our LORD AND SAVIOR!!!
God is far from dead!!!

It is always amazing to see an athlete being such a good steward of his time in the spotlight. Instead of flaunting wealth and fame, Tagovailoa has decided to use his platform for good. Hopefully, that becomes applauded both within NFL lockerrooms and among fans of the sport. If that happens, we are bound to see more Christian football stars feel comfortable sharing their faith.
