Former Detroit Police Chief Running For Senate, Focusing On “Return to Law and Order”

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig recently announced that he is running for Senate,  seeking to fill the soon-to-be vacant seat of Michigan Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow.  Hailing from perhaps the preeminent example of urban decay in America, Craig’s platform is heavily centered around restoring law and order.

If successful, Craig’s aspirations would place him as the first Republican to hold a Senate seat in Michigan in over two decades.  The former police chief announced his decision to run for the seat on his X account, stating, “The American People want a return to Law and Order. And that’s exactly what they’re going to get. I am officially running for United States Senate.”

During the video included in his social media announcement, Craig offers a monologue explaining the desire embedded deeply within Americans to restore order in urban society.  The Senate candidate described how American citizens are becoming the victims of rampant lawlessness, and they demand change.

“What about those families? What about small businesses? What about the victims of crime? It’s going to require strong leadership. And that’s what I bring to the table. These are individuals who are political servants, not public service. These are tough times. It’s a Bloodsport look at what’s going on state our country is going in a bad direction. Americans want better right and they want something different,” he said.

Craig explained to the Detroit News his motivations for his Senate campaign, stating he seeks to truly serve his community in a virtuous manner.  Citing over four decades as a public servant, the former police chief has the experience to back up his promise to his state.  “I believe that I’m in it for all right reasons,” Craig said. “I’m not doing it for ego. I’m certainly not doing it for power. I’ve been a public servant for 44 years, and that’s what I’m passionate about.”

The law enforcement veteran further demonstrated his commitment to the conservative cause by endorsing Donald Trump in an op-ed published in the Daily Caller.  Donald Trump praised Craig for his handling of the George Floyd riots in 2021, labeling him a “great police chief.”

“President Trump needs to win this election, and while in Washington again he is going to need other leaders supporting him who are unafraid of these problems Biden has created, leaders ready and eager to work towards tackling the issues confronting America,” Craig wrote in the op-ed.

Law and order has become a hot political topic as Americans endure the ever-apparent decline of urban America.  The American Tribune recently reported on Mayor Eric Johnson of Dallas, who recently ditched the Democrats and officially became a Republican.  Johnson wrote an op-ed titled  “America’s Cities Need Republicans, and I’m Becoming One,” where he explained in great detail his decision to jump across the political aisle.

Mayor Johnson wrote, “Our cities desperately need the genuine commitment to these principles (as opposed to the inconsistent, poll-driven commitment of many Democrats) that has long been a defining characteristic of the GOP.

“In other words, American cities need Republicans — and Republicans need American cities. “When my political hero Theodore Roosevelt was born, only 20% of Americans lived in urban areas. By the time he was elected president, that share had doubled to 40%. Today, it stands at 80%. As America’s cities go, so goes America.”
