Maybe Britney Spears father was right all along. The “Toxic” singer fought to end the court conservatorship giving her father power over her finances and certain aspects of her life, and if Spears recent behavior is an indication, perhaps the courts made a mistake ending the arrangement.
Once a teen pop icon, Britney Spears adult life has been littered with bizarre incidents of self destructive behavior and substance abuse. Spears has spent time in rehab, and has been forced to be on lithium by the conservatorship for bipolar disorder.
That isn’t to say Spears hasn’t achieved some measure of success as an adult. She has continued to release music and even got married to model Sam Asghari, who she met on the set of her “Slumber Party” music video in 2016. However, the pair divorced in August, perhaps contributing to her most recent spate of bizarre, dangerous behavior.
In January police were called to Spears house for a wellness check, but left immediately when it became obvious that they were called as a prank by fans. This prompted Spears to take to social media: “As everyone knows the police were called to my home based on some prank phone calls. I love and adore my fans but this time things went a little too far and my privacy was invaded.”
While that event ended without concern, the most recent visit was for a far more disturbing reason, and one the pop star brought on herself. On Tuesday the “Baby One More Time” singer got the police called one more time to check on her well being.
In a video posted to the Grammy-winning pop star’s Instagram, Spears can be seen wielding and clanking two very large kitchen knives, with the caption: “I started playing in the kitchen with knives today !!! Don’t worry they are NOT real knives !!! Halloween is soon !!!”
After the video went viral across social media, authorities performed a wellness check on Spears. Captain Dean Worthy of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office made a statement: “The Sheriff’s Communications Center received a call from the Los Angeles Police Department SMART team — that’s their Systemwide Mental Assessment Response Team — and they asked us if we would go to Ms. Spears’ residence and perform a check for well-being. This was on the heels of a tip they got not from a fan, but from an individual who is close to Miss Spears and knows her on a personal level that asks that we check her.”
A sergeant that was familiar with Spears and had been dispatched there before was sent, but the singers security team spoke with him over the intercom and informed the officer that she was fine and didn’t want to speak to police. Apparently this was satisfactory and the sergeant left.
In a post to social media on Wednesday, Spears wrote: “Lighten up about the knives I’m copying Shakira !!!” Her comment was in reference to a Shakira performance where she danced with knives, albeit not in her kitchen.

It’s been a sad, slow decline for the former teen idol, and thanks to social media one that has been on display for the world to see. It is unclear if Spears will ever pull herself out of the mental health issues and bizarre behavior, and the fear is one of these police visits will eventually end with a call to the coroner’s office.
