Though colleges and universities are generally hotbeds of leftism and the secularism or virulent atheism that comes with it, the Corpus Christi campus of Texas A&M saw a massive, powerful Christian revival on August 31. It was then that over 100 students were baptized out of the more than 1,000 that showed up for the event.
The event was meant to kick off the school year and was called One Night. Organized by a local worship organization called One Life Church, the back to school event took place for the eighth year, though only the second on the Texas A&M Corpus Christi campus.
Even more wonderful than the event continuing for nearly a decade now is that this year’s event grew substantially from last year’s. According to the Christian Post, the 124 baptized students were double in number compared to last year and that massive increase was also reflected in the number that showed up, with the over 1,000 students being double in number to those who showed up last year.
Speaking about the matter to the Christian Post, New Life Church Young Adults Pastor Tarik Whitmore, the church that organized the event and hosts an on-campus g New Life Young Adults, said that the event and the church’s influence on campus has “gradually increased over time.”
Whitmore said, “From the very beginning of worship, it was clear that something significant was happening because it was just, it was so powerful,” adding that the church’s services and the One Night event itself include “faces [we’ve] never seen [in church] before” and those students are “lifting up the name of Jesus.”
Posting about the massive One Night revival on Instagram New Life Corpus posted pictures of smiling, freshly baptized students and said, “We’ll never forget how God moved on East Lawn on 8.31.23. 1078 in attendance. 124 baptisms. Many healed and set free #OneNight23 #OneIslandUnderGod #tamucc27 #GenZ“Powerful outpouring today! ❤️🔥
In another post on the success of spreading the word of God in Corpus Christi, New Life Corpus said, “A couple of baseball payers from Texas A&M-CC shared their testimonies from this past week. -Holy Spirit fell -Spirit of repentance -Salvations -Altars flooded -43 spontaneous water baptisms”
Whitmore added that the students might be taking more to the event and to church as they see their peers going, making it more socially acceptable and something to do with peers: “For young people, it’s one thing for them to do that in a comfortable, familiar context like the Sunday morning; it’s another thing for them to do that at their college outdoors in front of their peers.”
Additionally, commenting on New Life Young Adults and what it does, Whitmore said, “Whether it is in a small group setting, or a corporate setting, or even a large event, it’s very simple: we are worshipping, we are communicating the Gospel,”
It remains to be seen how many schools can follow in the footsteps of this massive event, though Auburn is coming close with a massive revival and baptism it recently hosted.
