Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy has repeatedly shown that he should not be trifled with. Portnoy built Barstool Sports into a dominant brand behind the idea that sports should be fun and men should be allowed to be men. Naturally, this hasn’t always played well with the legacy media, particularly leftist publications like ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and the Washington Post.
Speaking of the aforementioned Washington Post, the paper’s national food writer, Emily Heil, made the unfortunate mistake of attempting to smear Portnoy and Barstool on the eve of the inaugural One Bite Pizza Festival. Needless to say, it didn’t go well for Heil.
It was brought to Portnoy’s attention by one of his advertisers for the event that Heil was sending emails to various advertisers, apparently in an attempt to badger them into withdrawing support for the event. When Portnoy learned of the shady dealings of the WaPo columnist, he eschewed exposing her on social media by going directly to the source.
Portnoy instead called the reporter and recorded a 12-minute conversation highlighted by the liberal journo lying about sending emails and calling the barstool CEO a “misogynistic racist.” When she finally realized it was actually Portnoy on the phone, and he had proof that she indeed said what he was asserting, the ensuing results were hilariously cringeworthy for Heil and the WaPo.
The conversation racked up over 21.5 million views in less than 24 hours on X. In the video, Portnoy repeated the scurrilous remarks where Heil said, ‘Dave’s a misogynic racist. Do you want to defend yourselves advertising at this event?’” to his advertiser, to which Heil replied: “I’m sorry. Who are you? I have not said anything like that.”
Portnoy then dropped the email bomb on Heil. He read the email to her, which said: “We are planning to write about the festival and how some of the sponsors and participants have drawn criticism by seeming to associate themselves with Dave Portnoy, who has a history of misogynistic comments and other problematic behavior.”
While Heil initially tried to deny she said anything of the sort, claiming, “I haven’t said anything like that,” once Portnoy read the email to her, she admitted that she sent them but tried to claim she was being bombastic in order to get the advertiser to respond.
It was at this point that the conversation turned contentious, and Portnoy went on the attack: “You said you didn’t do it. Then I have the exact evidence of you doing it, so …” to which Heil replied, “I didn’t say I didn’t do that.” Portneo then followed up, “Well, no. Before I provided proof you said you didn’t really remember doing that, and then I read it to you, and you’re like ‘Oh yeah I did it that one time,’ so you did do it.”
Portnoy went on to say to Heil: “The Washington Post, which is a wildly left-leaning publication, you have things you’ve said. You hate Trump. You hate Elon. Not that I’m those people. To think you’re gonna give me a fair shake … I wasn’t born yesterday.”
Clearly caught in her lie, Heil claimed that she planned on interviewing Pornoy the next day, but as of Wednesday, no such interview had taken place. The Barstool boss took to X and wrote: “The @washingtonpost just cancelled the 10am call. Shocker. They proposed 5pm instead. I said 10am or nothing. They refused. What could suddenly be more important than this? The article has to come out Friday. So they’d leave themselves a few hours before going to print?”
Dave Portnoy hilariously busted the mainstream media for doing what they do best; lying. It is unclear if Portnoy is going to pursue legal measures against Heil and the Post, but rest assured that they won’t be doing any hit pieces about the Barstool CEO anytime soon.
