Former NFL player Sergio Brown has been reported missing after his mother was found dead in a creek in Illinois. Brown’s brother, Nick, along with others in the NFL world have shared concern for Brown.
Sergio’s family alerted police to his disappearance on September 16 when both his and his mother’s absences were noted by the family. His mother, Myrtle Brown, was found dead at age 73, lying in a creek. A missing person search is still out, seeking Sergio.
According to a Fox News Digital report, the death of Myrtle Brown is being investigated as a homicide. Myrtle’s sister, Sheila Simmons spoke about the harrowing moments between her sister’s disappearance and the discovery of her body.
Simmons said, “We’re going to find out what happened because it’s not normal for my sister to not answer her phone, not to respond to text messages. People have been reaching out to her since Friday. No one was able to reach her. Now, I got the call this morning saying that she’s missing, so immediately I came out here and find out my sister is dead.”
Nick Brown brother of Sergio, says that his brother had been acting strange in recent weeks leading up to his disappearance.
Nick said, “It’s a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together. Mom always told me, “tough times don’t last” and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope.”
He continued on, talking about his brother’s disappearance and the ongoing investigation surrounding it. “My brother Sergio is still missing. If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home. People, please don’t approach the property, this is still an ongoing investigation by the Maywood Police Department. If you have any information on Sergio’s whereabouts please send them to the Maywood Police Department.”
According to people close to Sergio Brown, he has not been himself the past few months. Even described as ‘out of his mind’. Police have been called to the residence before. Post below is from his brother, Nick Brown. #MissingPerson pic.twitter.com/zf4aZZ2MW5

Myrtle Brown’s next-door neighbor spoke about the character of the woman who is now known to be deceased, saying, “Myrtle, she was an outstanding woman, and I’m hoping she’s in the right place and she’s with God. Like I said, I never would’ve expected this in a million years.”
The NFL world is in suspense following the news that Brown is missing. One Tweet recently resurfaced from Sergio Brown where he talked about his ongoing battles with depression. He said, “F*** what they say keep talking yourself out of depression.”
As the first 72 hours of the investigation have come to a close, the odds of finding Brown at any point in time have gone down dramatically. The first three days in any missing person case is crucial and while the search is ongoing, many of the most obvious locations to find Brown have already been exhausted.
