Recently, the former Department of Homeland Security agent and inspiration behind the smashing box office hit ‘Sound of Freedom’ said he is “very seriously considering” a run for Congressional office. Tim Ballard indicated he is contemplating running for U.S. Senate in his home state of Utah, where he would seek to replace Mitt Romney, who is retiring.
Ballard appeared on former White House press secretary Sean Spicer’s digital show, claiming he had been approached by “influential people” encouraging a potential run. The former DHS agent has received a lot of press surrounding his name as ‘Sound of Freedom’ has soared in popularity since its release.
“Since Sound of Freedom took out any opportunity for me to ever be an operator again — those days are done … They know my face. But starting several weeks ago, I’ve been asked by a lot of very influential people, names you would even know, asking me to throw in,” Ballard said.
Ballard stated that he is approaching the proposition with serious consideration. “I was very seriously considering it then. And now, I’ll be honest, even more very, very seriously considering,” he said.
Ballard explained that even before Mitt Romney’s retirement announcement, his consideration of running for office grew as he noted meeting the presidents of several Latin American countries in relation to U.S. border policy.
“That’s how it’s always worked in the past. So even before Senator Romney announced his retirement, a lot of things were building up to this consideration. I was with the president of Honduras last week, and the president of Guatemala last week, and I was just listening to them in their plight, in their tears, over the plight of their people because of our border policies,” Ballard said.
Further expounding upon the importance of fighting human trafficking, he outlined how millions of people, and in many cases children, are essentially being forced into “slavery.” Ballard called for action to be taken at the political level to combat this pervasive evil taking place around the world, especially on our own soil.
“We’re talking about millions of people being affected by forms of slavery because of the wind that our policies put into the sails of child traffickers. And I thought, there has to be something done — more done — at the federal level. So it just kept building and building and building. At the same time that’s happening I’m getting phone calls from people,” he said.
“Sound of Freedom” has been instrumental in bringing awareness to this noble cause. The movie smashed box office expectations and continues to be shown in movie theaters worldwide. The American Tribune recently reported how the film is not slowing down and is dominating the Latin American market.
“Angel Studios—a platform and studio empowering filmmakers to crowdfund, create, and distribute films and TV series globally, backed by thousands of Angel investors—has reached a new milestone, with the film SOUND OF FREEDOM claiming the #1 spot in 18 countries in Latin America. Written and directed by Alejandro Monteverde, the film has already reached its goal of selling 2 million tickets in Latin America to represent the 2 million children trafficked each year,” according to a press release.
