Things got wild at a closed doors meeting between former Hunter Biden business partner Devon Archer and the House Oversight Committee. During the meeting, which occurred in July, Archer alleged that Biden was not just on the speakerphone with Hunter more than 20 times, but also also met for a breakfast in the U.S. Naval Observatory, the Vice President’s home, with Hunter, Devon Archer, and Marc Holtzman, the chairman of Kazakhstan’s largest bank, Kazkommertsbank.
According to Mr. Archer’s testimony, the discussion between the exclusive group centered on how then-Vice President Biden could use his influence to help make then-Kazakhstan Prime Minister Karim Massimov, a thug who is currently serving 18 years in a Kazakhstan jail for high treason, among other crimes, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
That key moment in the testimony came when Mr. Archer was asked what the aforementioned meeting was about and said, “It was about who was going to be the next U.N. Secretary-General.” He then explained why he was involved, saying, “Because Mark Holtzman was lobbying for Karim Massimov. But it was — obviously, that didn’t happen.”
Later, he spoke about Massimov’s connection to Burisma, on which Hunter sat on the board, saying, “The other reasons for Massimov were Burisma Eurasia, because he was the Prime Minister, and Burisma was trying to expand its businesses, so I leveraged the relationship to introduce him to the company — the country and new equipment and technology and clean drilling. So that was — that was probably some of the effort.”
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green recently used that meeting to push for the impeachment of President Biden, saying, “That has full-blown access and participation by then-Vice President Joe Biden. The American people need to know about all of this. And that’s what our impeachment inquiry will produce — the evidence . . . This is exactly why we are leading the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden, because he has participated at the highest level in his son Hunter Biden’s business deals, and we’re going to show that to the country.”
Speaker McCarthy also used allegations surrounding the Biden family to justify the impeachment inquiry. Speaking about it, he demanded Biden’s cooperation, saying, “I would encourage the president and his team to fully cooperate with this investigation in the interest of transparency. We are committed to getting the answers for the American public, nothing more, nothing less.”
McCarthy also justified the inquiry, saying, “Eyewitnesses have testified that the president joined on multiple phone calls and had multiple interactions. Dinners resulted in cars and millions of dollars into his son and his son’s business partners.” Continuing, he noted, “Taken together, these allegations paint a picture of a culture of corruption. These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption. They warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives.”
Then, giving tidbits on what the path forward would look like, he said, “That’s why today, I am directing our house committee to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. This logical next step will give our committees the full power to gather all the facts and answers for the American public. It’s exactly what we want to know: the answers.”
Speaker McCarthy posted a video of his announcement on X (formerly Twitter), captioning it, “I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. Over the past several months, House Republicans have uncovered serious and credible allegations into President Biden’s conduct—a culture of corruption.“
