Things went less than well for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York when she returned home to New York City to give a press conference on the illegal immigration situation in the city and, instead of receiving a warm welcome from the residents, got mercilessly booed and heckled by New Yorkers fed up with the disastrously bad current state of things.
Rep. AOC appeared alongside New York City Rep. Jerry Nadler for the event, but neither managed to speak much as the very vocal protesters shut them down with a cacophony of booing and heckling that turned the event into chaos. The fury of the New Yorkers was understandable, as more than 100,000 migrants have arrived in the city over the past year, putting serious strain on the city’s ability to shelter them. As a result, migrants have been housed in hotels at significant taxpayer expense while causing disorder in the streets and overtaxing the municipal services.
So, when Rep. AOC started speaking, during the presser, about how migrants are just trying to live out the American dream and so deserve a hefty amount of federal resources directed their way, the already angry crowd went berserk. AOC, trying to get her message out, said, “They are prevented from getting jobs, they are prevented from employment, and that is part of the strain on our public system. The faster that folks can access the work that they’re asking for, legally, the better we can solve this problem.”
That, as could be expected, led to much more anger than cheering, with the crowd responding with anger and booing to AOC’s prattling about how the human tidal wave is one of the blessings of democracy and are placing a reasonable and valid claim on American resources.
And the protesters drowning AOC’s speech in boos weren’t the only ones to speak out. One man, interviewed by Fox News during the protest at AOC’s presser, said, “This is up to us…to stand up. Nobody’s coming here for us. If we don’t get up and fight for our city…they’re coming to destroy it.” Similarly, conservative commentator Michelle Tafoya, commenting on the incident, said, “Well, @AOC is getting a taste of her own medicine. Protesters shouting, “Close the border,” are drowning out her speech in NYC. She had to end it early.”

The problem is now so bad that even Democrats are commenting on it. For example, Mayor Adams highlighted the immense scope of the problem in a recent speech, saying, “We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month … Now we’re getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City.”
Continuing, he added, “One time we were just getting Venezuela, now we’re getting Ecuador, now we’re getting Russian-speaking coming through Mexico, now we’re getting Western Africa, now we’re getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City.” He added, “And everyone is saying, ‘It’s New York City’s problem.’ Every community in this city is going to be impacted. We have a $12 billion deficit that we’re going to have to cut every service in this city is going to be impacted. All of us.”
Emphasizing that point yet again and noting that the city is now dealing with more than a hundred thousand illegal immigrants, Mayor Adams suggested New York City is being ruined when he said, “It’s going to come to your neighborhoods. All of us are going to be impacted by this. I said it last year when we had 15,000. I’m telling you now with 110,000. The city we knew, we’re about to lose.” The political videos about this are out there, showing what top political figures are really saying.
