Biden’s trip to Vietnam, beyond just being weird because he was visiting Vietnam, was also embarrassing for Biden and America because of his gaffes. The worst such gaffe was when he made a comment about Vietnam being a third-world country, then the conference ended and he was cut off as he started rambling about the global south.
While “third world” is still the generally understood term for many countries like Vietnam, it has been replaced, largely in those countries and in the increasingly “politically correct” circles on the left, with the terms “global south” and “developing nation.” So while few conservatives care, Biden’s staff and the Vietnamese probably did.
As you can hear in the video, Biden said, “We talked about what we talked about at the conference overall. We talked about stability. We talked about making sure that the Third World — the — excuse me — “Third World” — the — the — the Southern Hemisphere had access to change, it had access —We — it wasn’t confrontational at all. He came up to me. He said-”
That’s when KJP abruptly cut President Biden off and ended the press conference, saying, “Thank — thank you, everybody.” President Biden kept mumbling and she ensured it ended, saying, “This ends the cou- — press conference. Thanks, everyone.”
That wasn’t the only time he used the term and then started stumbling while trying to correct himself. At another point, he said, “But, no, look — for example, one of the things we did in — in India: We provided for a new path that’s going to save everybody money, increase the Third World — “the Third World” — the — the Global South’s capacity to grow by sending — we’re going to — from — we’re going to have a new railroad from India all the way across to the Mediterranean, new shipping lanes and pipelines across the Mediterranean through Europe, up into — up into Great Britain and beyond.”
Those weren’t even his only gaffes. He also got incredibly confused when trying to make it through his press conference, saying he was just wanting to “follow [his] orders” from his staff on which journalists to call on during the event. Watch that here:
As you can hear in the clip, Biden said, “For — and let’s see. I’m just following my orders here. Staff, is there anybody I haven’t spoken to? No, I ain’t calling on you. I’m calling on — I said there were five questions.”
That came after Biden again used the term “dog-faced pony soldier” and then tried to explain it, saying, “And there’s a — my — my brother loves having — there’s famous lines from movies that he always quotes. You know, it’s — and one — one of them is — there’s — there’s a movie about John Wayne. He’s an Indian scout. And they’re trying to get the Ap- — I think it was the Apache — one — one of the great tribes of America back on the reservation. And he’s standing with a Union so- — so he’s — they’re all on their — and they’re on their horses in their saddles. And there’s three or four Indians in headdresses, and the Union soldiers — and the Union soldiers are basically saying to the Indians, “Come with me, we’ll take care of you. We’ll — everything will be good.” And the Indian scou- — the Indian looks at John Wayne and points to the Union soldier and says, “He’s a lying, dog-faced pony soldier.” Well, there’s a lot of lying, dog-faced pony soldiers out there about — about global warming, but not anymore. All of a sudden, they’re all realizing it’s a problem. And there’s nothing like seeing the light.”
