Recently, New York City has faced a massive spike in its population of homeless people, exacerbated by the influx of asylum-seeking migrants. Reportedly, the Big Apple’s infrastructure is struggling to accommodate well over 100,000 individuals without homes.
According to a report from Reuters, New York City has not faced homelessness of this caliber since the economic disaster of the Great Depression in the 1930s. “As of mid-August, there were more than 110,000 people sleeping in the city shelter system each night. And that number doesn’t include the 1000s of unsheltered people who sleep on the streets,” the report stated

Adding fuel to the fire, asylum-seeking immigrants have flooded the streets of New York, compounding the already dire situation with the preexisting homeless. Conservative states, such as Governor Greg Abbott’s Texas, have sent buses full of their illegal immigrants to sanctuary cities and blue states to share the burden of the border crisis along southern America.
According to a social media post from Governor Abbott, Texas has relocated tens of thousands of its illegal immigrants to liberal-run areas. Abbott has sent the most by far to the heart of New York City.
Texas has bused over 36,000 migrants to sanctuary cities to provide relief to overwhelmed Texas border towns:
-Over 11,400 to DC
-Over 13,700 to NYC
–Over 7,200 to Chicago
-Over 2,600 to Philadelphia
-Over 1,100 to Denver
-Over 530 to LA

The American Tribune recently reported on distressed comments from New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who claimed his city will be “destroyed” if action is not taken to mitigate the newfound migrant and homelessness crisis.
“Let me tell you something, New Yorkers. Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this. I don’t see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City,” Adams said in a defeated manner.
“We’re getting 10,000 migrants a month … Now we’re getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City,” he continued.
Adams noted that migrants are piling into New York City from all over the world, suggesting the city has become desirable for those seeking to cross the southern border. “One time we were just getting Venezuela, now we’re getting Ecuador, now we’re getting Russian-speaking coming through Mexico, now we’re getting Western Africa, now we’re getting people from all over the globe have made their minds up that they’re going to come through the southern part of the border and come into New York City.”
Adams also pointed out the financial ramifications of the crisis, pointing out that many services will have to be cut to overcome an already preexisting budget deficit. “And everyone is saying, ‘It’s New York City’s problem.’ Every community in this city is going to be impacted. We have a $12 billion deficit that we’re going to have to cut every service in this city is going to be impacted. All of us.”
The mayor warned residents that the massive influx of migrants will impact everyone. “It’s going to come to your neighborhoods. All of us are going to be impacted by this. I said it last year when we had 15,000. I’m telling you now with 110,000. The city we knew, we’re about to lose.”
