Former President Donald Trump has now been indicted four times. First came Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s charges against him, then the federal charges brought against him in Florida for his handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, then more federal charges were brought against him in DC, then yet more charges were piled on under Georgia’s RICO law by DA Fanni Willis. Now, former Tennessee judge and daytime TV judge Joe Brown has come down on Trump’s side, blasting the charges he is facing as absurd,
That came during a recent conversation that Judge Brown had with conservative commentator Rev. Jesse Peters, during which the Trump indictments came up. Tearing into them through the lens of an experienced jurist, Judge Brown characterized the charges as “being completely outside of the law.”
Judge Brown first hammered Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, saying, “Take what this clown [Alvin] Bragg did in New York. Like Trump or not, what they did is indict him for being the victim of a blackmail attempt. They say he attempted to bribe [adult film star] Stormy Daniels to keep her silent.”
Continuing, Judge Brown described why he thinks DA Bragg’s charges against Trump are ridiculous, saying, “This guy [Bragg] didn’t go to law school or didn’t pay much attention when he was there because when you flip the script, as you’re instructed [during] the first year, if you had to pay somebody to be quiet, then you got blackmailed. So [Trump] is the victim of a felony.”
Continuing, Judge Brown hammered Jack Smith for the federal charges Trump is facing over the documents found at Mar-a-Lago, saying those are absurd because the law gives presidents “an inherent power to declassify or classify anything, any document.”
As Trump tries to fend off the legal attacks and many Americans shake their heads in dismay at what looks like the weaponization of the government against the leader of the political opposition, Rep. Schiff and others are demanding the Trump trial be turned into a televised circus.
“We are writing to request the Judicial Conference explicitly authorize the broadcasting of court proceedings in the cases of United States of America v. Donald J. Trump. It is imperative the Conference ensures timely access to accurate and reliable information surrounding these cases and all of their proceedings, given the extraordinary national importance to our democratic institutions and the need for transparency. As the policymaking body for the federal courts, the Judicial Conference has historically supported increased transparency and public access to the courts’ activities,” they wrote.
“Given the historic nature of the charges brought forth in these cases, it is hard to imagine a more powerful circumstance for televised proceedings. If the public is to fully accept the outcome, it will be vitally important for it to witness, as directly as possible, how the trials are conducted, the strength of the evidence adduced and the credibility of witnesses. We urge the conference to take additional steps, including live broadcasting, to ensure the facts of this case are brought forward, unfiltered, to the public,” their letter continued.
