How bad have cities under years of leftist control gotten? Well, according to a Navy vet who was brutally attacked in one such city-turned-slum while walking his dog, the leftist-run city of Philadelphia is now worse than a war zone because of the out-of-control crime, squalor, and chaos.
The attack occurred last Saturday night when Mr. Scott Harris, 62 years old, was walking his dog at around 11:50 at night in the Brwerytown neighborhood of Philadelphia. That’s when he was attacked by a massive and angry mob of people who left him suffering from a brain injury and requiring about 100 stitches from the hospital.
Describing the situation to NBC 10, Mr. Harris said, “That night on Saturday, there was a huge party going on over here. A little bit out of control but nothing terribly concerning to me. Next thing you know, I’m in the emergency room getting stitches.”
After the group knocked Mr. Harris unconscious, they took his wallet. Though it had no money in it, it did have his deceased mother’s driving license in it, which he had held onto since her death. Describing that, he said, “Sadly, only thing I really cared about in that wallet was my mother’s driver’s license. She passed about 10 years ago. That’s kind of how I kept her close and now I don’t even have that.”
Continuing, Mr. Harris added that he was shocked that, after he served for years in Iraq and Ukraine, violence found him not in a war zone abroad but rather at home in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, as violent crime plagues many communities, Mr. Harris’ experience with violence on his doorstep will get less and less unique.
Three women helped Mr. Harris home after he was attacked. His partner, describing that, said, “They brought him back, otherwise I don’t know what would have happened. We were on the stoop and he was just bleeding, I was on the phone with 911, I didn’t know where the blood was coming from, I didn’t know if he was stabbed.”
Further, though crime in the city is allegedly down, according to city authorities, residents of Philadelphia are far from happy with the situation and are finding the oppressive burden of violent crime to painful and burdensome to bear.
One woman, for example, said that even getting on public transport now is far too dangerous, making calling expensive Uber rides a must. She said, “My kids don’t even get on the SEPTA bus or the El. They get in Ubers. It’s ridiculous. It’s really ridiculous, what is it gonna take for it? What’s it going to take?”
Similarly, another resident of Philly called for a return to harsher measures to deal with the crime problem, with the same report saying, “I don’t like to say it, but I would go back to the old search, go back to stop and frisk, because there are too many guns, you have 14-year-olds riding around on bikes with machine guns.”
