Kira Talip Sanchez, the attorney for Kleberg County, Texas, recently jumped ship from the Democratic Party and ran into the waiting arms of the Republicans, who were happy to have someone ditch the Democrats for them. Sanchez left primarily because of the disaster at the border, which she blames on the Democrats.
In a statement on the matter, she said, “As County Attorney, I have been proud to work with law enforcement to ensure the safety of the citizens of Kleberg County. There is an unprecedented crisis at our southern border. I believe that the GOP’s policies of law and order protecting safety, and backing the blue best align with my values and the values of the citizens of Kleberg County.”
She also feared retaliation from her former party after she left it, telling “Fox & Friends” on Monday that the far-left Democrats were no longer a party with which she had values in common and that she feared Democrats calling her a “traitor” out of retaliation.
“In recent years, I feel like my former party has moved further left and it’s no longer aligned with my values,” Talip told the FNC hosts, explaining what gave her the impetus to switch parties and potentially face the wrath of her former party.
That’s when she got into why she was so fearful of retaliation, first explaining the relationship between Hispanics and the left. “As a Hispanic, we were told, you know, ‘Hispanics are Democrats,’ and that is not really the case. I feel like a lot of Hispanic Americans are Republican, and they don’t even know it,” she said.
And it was because of that assumption on the part of Democrats that she feared being called a traitor, telling the “Fox & Friends” hosts, “I was nervous to be called a traitor. You know, ‘You’re Hispanic, why are you why are you Republican?’ But I feel very comfortable in switching. I feel like I feel like I’m at home and this is where I belong.”
Others realize the disaster that is happening at the border as well. For example, Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently announced a partnership between 14 red states to defend the border, saying, “These Governors here with me today are deploying military and law enforcement officers to help Texas secure the border. We have 14 Governors who are deploying personnel to secure the border that President Biden has abandoned. President Biden is not doing his job, and he is responsible for the largest amount of illegal immigration in the history of the United States and has rolled out a deadly welcome mat with a record number of people dying attempting to cross the border. There is a reason the United Nations has named the border between the United States and Mexico the deadliest land border in the entire world. President Biden is responsible for that deadly border, and we’re not going to stand idly by. We, as states, share an obligation and that’s to step up and address this unparalleled catastrophe caused by President Biden.”
Similarly, Gov. Pillen of Nebraska, another state involved in the partnership, said, “President Biden continues to let the crisis at the border go unchecked, and it is growing. This is a national security issue that must be addressed. We stand with Governor Abbott as his state works daily to halt the influx of illegal drugs, weapons, and criminals into the U.S.”
And Governor Noem, who is also involved, said, “What we’re literally witnessing is a war zone, and it is astonishing to witness our President allow this to happen. The cartels are out for blood, and they are facilitating the trafficking of our children every day. These policies are inhumane of what they’re doing to people and these families. This country needs to realize that our President breaks the law and ignores the law. I thank Governor Abbott for all that he’s done to fight this fight. I’m all in helping support Operation Lone Star.”
