In August of 2023, President Joe Biden finally arrived in the Hawaiian island of Maui after a wildfire tore across the island, leaving death and destruction in its wake. Though Hawaii is a massively “blue” state, voting Democrat in almost every election since 1959, not all the residents were excited to see Slow Joe, with a “Traitor Joe Must Go” sign going viral as the president headed to the island.
In the tweet about the flag posted by Daily Signal Investigative Columnist Tony Kinnett, American flags flying in distress (upside down) can be seen on a still-standing home that also has a sign reading “Traitor Joe Must Go” propped up outside it.
Commenting on the video, people said things like “Mike Lindel (My-Pillow) should dump a plane-load of pillows & blankets ! Also .. Red Cross is not there, as all the children are dead .. Find out what U.S. Marines found upon arrival at 4 pm. (Nat Grd arrived at 6pm!?)” and “The nation in distress American Flag says it all.
@POTUS is a damn disgrace.”
Others argued that Hawaii goes left by massive margins and so needs to deal with that before getting too much sympathy from the right, saying things like, “They get what they voted for!” and “He will still win Hawaii by 30 percent.”
However, another commenter said that the fury directed Joe Biden’s way could be a sign of things potentially changing in the state, writing, “When democrats, in one of the bluest states in the country put signs out like that, it’s over.”
Mr. Kinnett wasn’t the only one to tweet out the video and use it to mock and attack Slow Joe. Trending Politics News’ Collin Rugg did as well, posting the same clip and writing, “NEW: Maui resident displays a ‘Traitor Joe Must Go’ sign in their lawn as Biden takes a break from his month of vacations to visit the Hawaiian island. Despite sending $100B+ to Ukraine, Biden is only giving $700 a household to Maui residents impacted by the fires. No wonder why they’re upset.”
The $700 claim is a reference to a tweet President Biden posted in which he said, “We’re laser-focused on getting aid to survivors, including Critical Needs Assistance: a one-time $700 payment per household offering relief during an unimaginably difficult time. We have staff on the ground dedicated to helping survivors navigate the registration process.”
However, ABC News reported recently that “The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Friday it has approved more than $5.6 million in assistance to nearly 2,000 households in Maui so far,” which works out to about $2800 per household.
So, there is more aid being provided to the victims of the fire than just the $700, though many still found what limited aid has been provided insulting compared to what has been sent to Ukraine. One commenter, for instance, said, “Joe Biden gave 100 Billion to Ukraine but just announced he plans to give those suffering in Maui a ONE time $700 payment. We need an American first president… PERIOD. It’s time to get rid of Joe Biden.”
