KJP had some serious trouble at the August 14th press briefing when she was pressed over Biden’s already infamous “no comment” remark about the wildfire disaster in Maui, Hawaii, given after Biden spent the weekend at Rehoboth beach in Deleware as Maui burned.
As background, Bloomberg White House correspondent Justin Sink reported on X that Biden was asked about the rising death toll due to the wildfire and had no comment. “After a couple hours on the Rehoboth beach, @potus was asked about the rising death toll in Hawaii ‘No comment,’ he said before heading home,” Sink said on X.
So, during the press briefing, KJP was pressed over that, with the reporter noting that he should have been able to have a comment on the situation in Hawaii at this point. The reporter asked, “Has the President been given any advice that he should not speak about Hawaii at this point? Because when he spoke the other day, he added that to planned remarks. The death toll has now roughly tripled. It’s now the worst in history. He had an opportunity — he could have stopped by to see us when he arrived back. Do you expect that he will have any kind of standalone comments about the new level of loss and devastation?”
KJP, predictably, did her best to give a word salad collection of nonsense instead of an answer. “So, I — I could — you could expect to hear from the President on this issue. Clearly, it is something that is deeply concerning to him when it comes to the fi- — the wildfires that we have seen in Maui. That’s why we, again, had the Administrator here. That’s why she was on TV the last couple of days, talking — being on the ground, she can speak directly to this — right? — being on the ground —,” she said.
Cutting in, the reporter wasn’t having KJP’s Kamala-like word salad response. “I’m asking about the President’s voice in this,” she said.
So KJP tried the word salad response again, insisting over and over that we would hear from Biden, though she declined to say when. “No, I — I — no, I just said you’ll — you’ll hear from the President on this. I don’t have anything to announce at this time. But certainly, this is — he’s the president. Right? You’re going to hear from him. You heard from him on Thursday. And then you’ve heard from — you heard from the Administrator for the past several days,” she said.
Then, after rambling about FEMA and what Hawaii Democrats have said for awhile, KJP returned to rambling about Biden eventually talking about the subject, saying, “Of course, you’re going to hear from the President. Don’t have anything to share at this time. But let’s not forget: We did hear from him on Thursday — right? — when he was in Utah ahead of talking about the PACT Act, which is, as you know, something — it was a year anniversary — an issue that is incredibly important to many Americans. And he took that time to — to speak to it. So, I’m sure you’ll be hearing from the President.”
