In a video posted to YouTube last week, Brody Jenner, son of transgender Kardashian family member Caitlyn Jenner, said that he looks forward to being a father and plans on parenting far differently than his father did when he, Brody, was a boy.
In the video, Brody announced that his fiancéem Tiarah “Tia” Blanco, had a baby girl, whom they named Honey Raye, at the end of July. He then went on to discuss his relationship with Jenner and planned difference in parenting styles.
Beginning that discussion of parenting, Brody said that what excites him most about being a dad is being able to do a better job than Jenner did, saying, “I think that what I’m most excited about is doing things differently than my father did.”
Continuing, 39-year-old Brody said that he and Jenner didn’t have the best relationship growing up because Jenner was never around. He said, “Growing up, I didn’t have the greatest relationship with then-Bruce. He wasn’t really around for me growing up. So, I think that just being — just doing the exact opposite, being the absolute best father I can possibly be [is what I want].”
Brody then expressed some hope for the future and his ability to overcome the problems that his father’s parenting style created, saying, “Hopefully I can just be the absolute best father.” Brody then added that his fiancee is similarly excited, saying, “Tia and I are just absolutely thrilled. She’s gonna be the best mom. And hopefully I can just be the absolute best father, and be there for all these incredible events in her life. I just can’t wait to meet her.”
Watch that here:
A spokesperson for Jenner declined to get involved in the controversy and instead just stayed positive in a brief remark on the new grandbaby, saying, “Caitlyn is thrilled for Brody and Tia. Caitlyn is always happy when her kids are happy, as any parent would be.”
Jenner had admitted in 2015 to not being a particularly good parents when the kids were growing up, saying, “The big formative years for them, I was really struggling with these issues. I talked to all the boys about this after the fact, that, yeah, I didn’t do a good job. And I apologized to my kids for that.”
Brandon Jenner, in that interview, made similar remarks to Brody about Jenner’s being missing in action as a parent when they were growing up, saying, “Us missing, you know, a time of our lives is still probably the hardest thing for us to deal with. We’re trying not to look back. We’re just looking forward.”
