Rent is rising all over the country due to Joe Biden and his bad policy. Covid, along with sky-high inflation caused by liberal policy, has made owning a home difficult and renting a place to live difficult as well. Considering the nation has at least a year-and-a-half left of Joe Biden, things aren’t looking to improve anytime soon.
During Covid, the Biden administration declared a moratorium on evictions and suspended rent payments for many. While on the surface, this seemed like a humanitarian move, it put landlords in a bad position. Landlords still had to pay their bills even when they weren’t getting rent payments, and when Covid finally ended, property owners did the only thing they could to recoup their losses; they raised rent.
Since many people couldn’t afford a higher rent, some properties went vacant. Subsequently, a new breed of vagrant was cultivated, the squatter. While squatters aren’t a new phenomenon, current laws in many states make it nearly impossible to remove them.
In past years a property owner could simply call the police or, in some cases, physically remove the intruders on their own. However, since modern-day America is all about protecting criminals, it is dangerous and virtually impossible for landlords to protect their investments.
Enter Flash Shelton. Shelton is a handyman whose mother had an experience with squatters. That experience taught him a method to assist and remove unwanted vagrants from a property, legally and safely.
Shelton recently shared his methods: “I can basically become a tenant and live with them until they choose to leave on their own. Go in and sit on the couch and open the fridge and basically be like, ‘I don’t know what you’re doing, but this is my home now. The adrenaline kicks in, and I just go in, and I just feel comfortable, and I just make it happen. They’re not only surprised, they don’t know how to react.”
Essentially, Shelton makes a rental agreement with the landlord and moves in. Once he is in, he makes life so unpleasant for the squatters that they give up and leave. While genius, it is also brilliant in its simplicity. Once Shelton becomes a sufficient pain in the rear, he acts to remove the squatters from the premises by installing Ring doorbells and threatening to broadcast their day-to-day activities and their identities to the world.
Shelton continued: “People kind of want to get away as fast as possible, and they don’t want to be seen. Before they even know what’s happening, I’ve already removed them.”
Considering the problem in California is so pervasive, Shelton can’t assist every desperate landowner, but he can teach people how to do it safely. He described his methods: “I prepare so much ahead of time and because I know all about who I’m going to deal with, I know how many people are there. There are risks involved, and I don’t recommend that people do this on their own, but I will help you and give you tools and try to help you do it in a peaceful way.”
Shelton had to deal with difficult squatting issues for his mother after his father died, and while his methods are smart and effective, he really wants law enforcement to take care of the issue.“Squatters are ruining lives, and they’re taking homes and homes that people have worked their whole lives for. My mom didn’t deserve to have to go through that. I think that I have the backing of law enforcement because they wish they could do it.”
Hopefully, Flash Shelton can bring enough attention to the problem to get it solved on a federal level. Until then, he will continue teaching people how to remove vagrants safely and effectively.
