Congress might be on break for August, but the investigation into Hunter Biden isn’t on pause, as shown by the recent release from the House Oversight Committee of bank records showing what Hunter Biden and his associates were up to in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Well, the DOJ isn’t keeping quiet on it either, as shown by Merrick Garland’s appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate Hunter after the plea deal was thrown out.
Garland, during his announcement of the special counsel, tried to make it sound like the special counsel had been appointed to help further the investigation into Hunter Biden, saying, Continuing, Garland added, “On Tuesday of this week, Mr. Weiss advised me that in his judgment, his investigation has reached a stage at which he should continue his work as a Special Counsel, and he asked to be so appointed. Upon considering his request, as well as the extraordinary circumstances relating to this matter, I have concluded it is in the public interest to appoint him as Special Counsel. This appointment confirms my commitment to provide Mr. Weiss all the resources he requests. It also reaffirms that Mr. Weiss has the authority he needs to conduct a thorough investigation and to continue to take the steps he deems appropriate independently, based only on the facts and the law.”
Well, Rep. James Comer of the House Oversight Committee immediately cried foul. Rep. Comer posted a picture of his statement on Twitter and captioned it by saying, “🚨STATEMENT🚨 This move by AG Garland is part of the Justice Department’s efforts to attempt a Biden family coverup in light of @GOPoversight’s mounting evidence of President Biden’s role in his family’s schemes selling ‘the brand’ for millions of dollars to foreign nationals.”
Rep. Comer’s statement ripped into the intentions behind the special counsel appointment, arguing that it occurred not because the Biden Administration wants to hold Hunter accountable for what he was up to but rather because it wants to cover up for him.
Beginning, he reminded readers of what the Department of Justice has already done to help out Hunter and his dad, saying, “This move by Attorney General Garland is part of the Justice Department’s efforts to attempt a Biden family coverup in light of the House Oversight Committee’s mounting evidence of President Joe Biden’s role in his family’s schemes selling the brand’ for millions of dollars to foreign nationals. The Justice Department’s misconduct and politicization in the Biden criminal investigation already allowed the statute of limitations to run with respect to egregious felonies committed by Hunter Biden. Justice Department officials refused to follow evidence that could have led to Joe Biden, tipped off the Biden transition team and Hunter Biden’s lawyers about planned interviews and searches, and attempted to sneakily place Hunter Biden on the path to a sweetheart plea deal.”
He then turned from that past history of helping the Biden’s to what he thinks this announcement is all about, saying, “Let’s be clear what today’s move is really about. The Biden Justice Department is trying to stonewall congressional oversight as we have presented evidence to the American people about the Biden family’s corruption. The House Oversight Committee will continue to follow the Biden family’s money trail and interview witnesses to determine whether foreign actors targeted the Bidens, President Biden is compromised and corrupt, and our national security is threatened. We will also continue to work with the House Committees on Judiciary and Ways and Means to root out misconduct at the Justice Department and hold bad actors accountable for weaponizing law enforcement powers.”

Comer wasn’t the only one to suggest something else was going on. Even CBS News did, as can be watched here:
JUST IN: CBS News corespondent Catherine Herridge suggests Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Delaware US Attorney David Weiss as special counsel to protect the Biden family by blocking Weiss from testifying.
