While much of the GOP tears into the DOJ and FBI for what they see as blatantly political prosecutions of former President Donald Trump and his supporters, former New Jersey Governor and 2024 GOP contender Chris Christie is doing the opposite. He is, bizarrely, defending the DOJ and FBI, even going so far as to say he’s proud of pushing FBI Director Christopher Wray on then-President Donald Trump.
Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany tore into Christie for that strategy, saying it’s a sure loser in the 2024 race that will only anger the GOP electorate. Particularly, she shredded Christie’s defense of Chris Wray, about whom he said, “I did recommend him to President Trump, and I’m proud that I did.”
For reference, Christie, during an appearance on Fox News, didn’t just say that he’s “proud” to have recommended Chris Wray but that he thinks Wray has done a good job. Defending Wray’s record, Christie said, “Those things they’re talking about today, and the director made this point over and over again, are all things from when Jim Comey, Eric Holder, and Loretta Lynch were in charge of the Justice Department — before he got put in charge. He fired the entire Comey leadership team out of the FBI, they’re all gone.”
Continuing, Christie said that the FBI agents despised by many Americans “do a great job,” saying, “Is it all fixed? Of course, it’s not all fixed. Jim Comey and Eric Holder, and Loretta Lynch drastically harmed the Department of Justice and the FBI. And Chris Wray has now spent years fixing that. What you saw today was an animated and combative FBI director who is defending the men and women who work for him… and do a great job…”
Not done with the suicidally pro-Deep State strategy, Christie then complimented Wray yet again, saying, “So yeah, I think Chris Wray has done a very good job, and I think a lot of the stuff you see today is theater, people trying to raise money for campaigns.”
McEnany pointed out the obvious about Christie’s pro-FBI campaign strategy, which is that it’s the biggest loser of a strategy that could possibly be imagined when a significant percentage of the GOP wants to entirely disband the FBI.
Commenting on Christie’s terrible campaign strategy, particularly given it comes admist the persecution through prosecution of former President Donald Trump. McEnany said, “Best of luck to Chris Christie with that message in a GOP primary, which has tremendous distrust for the FBI.”
Continuing, she added that Chris Wray hasn’t actually fixed most of what the GOP is worried about, such as a field office’s attempts to investigate Catholics for being Catholic, saying, “There’s a lot of questions for him — this ‘radical traditionalist Catholic’ memo which he rescinded, he said he was ‘aghast’ by it. But yet he won’t allow the authors of that before Congress. None of this instills confidence in the American people, many of whom have distrust for the FBI.”
