Recently, the heir to the Anheuser-Busch corporation was interviewed by TMZ where he was asked about his opinions on the controversy surrounding Bud Light’s disastrous social media advertisement with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney. Billy Busch, the heir to the beer fortune, claimed his ancestors “would have rolled over in their graves” if knew about the Mulvaney ad.
Addressing the elephant in the room, the TMZ hosts quickly prompted Busch to give his thoughts on Anheuser-Busch’s misfortune. “Let’s talk about where we are today for a minute. You must have strong opinions about the Dylan Mulvaney campaign,” TMZ said.
Busch wasted know time in getting straight to the point, letting TMZ know that he and his family do not condone the corporate wokeness at Bud Light and Anheuser-Busch. “I think my family my ancestors would have rolled over in their grave. They were very patriotic. They love this country and what it stood for. They believe that transgender, gays, that sort of thing was all a very personal issue,” the heir said.
He continued to explain the values his family stood for and how it influenced their decision when running Anheuser-Busch. “They love this country because it is a free country and people are allowed to do what they want. But it was never meant to be on a beer can and never meant to be pushed in people’s faces. So they would have they would have never marketed their brands that way,” Busch said.
Busch then insinuated that Bud Light’s decision to partner with Dylan Mulvaney was totally out of touch with their target audience. He noted that his opinion of the average beer drinker is a patriotic, hard-working blue-collar American that wouldn’t agree with Bud Light putting a transgender social media influencer’s face on a can.
“You know, I think people who drink beer I think they’re your they’re your common folk. I think they are the blue collar worker who goes out and works hard every single day and the last thing they weren’t pushed down their throat you know, or to be drinking is a beer can with with that kind of message on it. I just don’t think that’s that’s what they’re looking for,” Busch said. “They want their beer to be truly American truly patriotic, as it always has been. Truly America’s beer, which Bud Light was and probably isn’t any longer.”
The Anheuser-Busch heir pushed back at the TMZ hosts who questioned his assertion that the Mulvaney collaboration contradicted patriotic values. “I think it’s not American. I, I’m not saying saying it’s, I just don’t think the audience that drinks beer is into transgenders. And that kind of advertising. I think they’re, I think people that drink beer are much more. Again, straight blue collar,” he said. Watch the clip of the interview below.
Dylan Mulvaney recently criticized Bud Light amid the ongoing backlash against the beer. “For a company to hire a trans person and not publicly stand by them is worse in my opinion than not hiring a trans person because it gives customers permission to be as transphobic and hateful and they want and the hate doesn’t end with me. It has serious and grave consequences,” Mulvaney said.
