Since Joe Biden took office and effectively dismantled President Trump’s immigration policies, the Southern border has been under assault. Illegal crossings are at an all-time high, Border Patrol has effectively been neutered by bad policy and lack of funding, and subsequently, border towns in many states have become overrun with illegal migrants.
To alleviate the stress on resources at our Southern border and to make a point about Biden’s failing policies, many states have been bussing or sometimes even flying migrants to so-called sanctuary cities, where the migrants are welcomed in theory, but in actual practice often live on the street or are sent elsewhere.
New York City has been asking the federal government for help with the growing migrant crisis for some time, but Biden and Harris have offered no solutions. Now, many in the city are pushing back and taking to the streets to protest Joe Biden and his inaction.
On Monday, angry Democrats rallied outside City Hall to protest the Biden Administration and to appeal for help with the exploding humanitarian disaster Washington has caused. Prominent local politicians and concerned citizens gathered to make their concerns heard.
City Councilwoman Lynn Shulman (D-Queens) took to song, to the tune of “Mrs. Robinson” to say this: “In the words of a famous singing duo, Simon and Garfunkel, who grew up in my district, to the tune of Mrs. Robinson — ‘Where have you gone, President Joe Biden? New York City turns its lonely eyes to you.’ Please help us Mr President.”
The furor is in response to the White House announcing last week that it is hiring a single staffer to help coordinate the fed’s response with New York’s City Hall. The completely ineffective gesture has outraged prominent local Democrats.
Mayor Eric Adams, who has been rumored to be considering a White House bid should Biden step down, has been asking for billions of dollars in aid for over a year. All he got was one staffer for his troubles. This hasn’t sat well with local politicians.
Another city councilman, Robert Holden, said this: “The president’s asleep at the wheel on this one, folks, and I’m a Democrat. Where is the Biden administration? This has been going on for years. Have we heard a plan?”
The short answer is ‘no,’ and that is possibly the long answer as well. The Biden plan has shown no willingness to stem the surge at the Southern border, and the alleged border czar, Kamala Harris, has been completely ineffective in yet another role.
Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine expressed what half of the country already knew: “If you had told me a year and a half ago that in the midst of a major refugee crisis, the federal government would not mobilize to help nearly 100,000 human beings at risk, I wouldn’t believe you. But that is precisely what we are facing now in New York.”
It can be fairly assumed that the half of the country that didn’t vote for the man sitting in the White House had some idea ahead of time what would happen if Biden undid all of the good Trump did at the border. Sadly, it didn’t matter, and now Democrats in major cities are discovering that voting does indeed have consequences.
No one wants to see homeless migrants, and with winter just a few months away, if Biden and Harris continue to sit on their hands and let migrants overwhelm our system, the humanitarian crisis is only going to get worse.
