The state of Florida recently updated its history curriculum and, as a result, the left has been going absolutely insane over the changes made, with Governor DeSantis and Vice President Kamala Harris fighting over the curriculum and what it’s meant to teach.
But Kamala isn’t the only one who is trying to use the history curriculum to smear and slander Governor DeSantis. Whoopi Goldberg, one of the co-hosts of ABC’s “The View,” did so as well in a recent broadcast of that show, suggesting that DeSantis is trying to erase black people with the curriculum.
She said, “Listen. We’ve built the White House, we have — listen. I’m tired of explaining it. I’m tired of explaining it. You know, and just so we’re clear, we’re not going anywhere. We’ve been here, Mr. DeSantis. Many of us have been here for generations. Can you say the same? No, I don’t think he can.”
Agreeing with her, one of Whoopi’s fellow far-left co-hosts on “The View,” Joy Behar said that “His actions speak even louder than his words” and that DeSantis is “overseeing gerrymandering in Florida to weaken the black vote.”
Watch them here:
Rep. Byron Donalds, a Republican from Florida, for his part, has said, “I’ve been very clear that the standards are robust, they are accurate, they are good. Students in Florida will learn black history. But my issue is with one sentence of the entire thing. One sentence of 200 pages.”
This isn’t the first time that Whoopi has attacked DeSantis over what is being taught in Florida schools. Back in February of 2023, Whoopi attacked DeSantis for his decision to keep out what he and others on the right characterized as a CRT-focused AP African American history class.
She said, “Queer history is American history is black history. There are black gay folks.” Continuing, she added, “He wants to argue that Florida mandates teaching black history. It’s been mandated since 1994, but funding was never mandated. It’s been poorly enforced. And 11 of 67 of Florida school districts are considered to be truly meeting the mandate. Most districts limit instruction on black history to Black History Month.”
As with Whoopi’s recent outburst, Joy Behar agreed with her there too, saying, “He’s got a very good education. Now he doesn’t want anybody else to have it.”
Florida Education Department Press Secretary Cassie Palelis said in a statement to the Washington Examiner at the time that, “If the course comes into compliance and incorporates historically accurate content, the Department will reopen the discussion.”
