Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom has been outspoken in his conservative political views during and after his days in the league. Following a successful appearance at the 2022 Conservative Political Action Conference, Freedom is playing around with the idea of funning for Congress in 2028.
In an interview shared by Fox News Digital, the outspoken Swiss-born athlete shared his desire to join the American Federal legislature. While he says that now is not the right time for his first attempt at running for the house, he believes the right time will be soon.
“I will say it’s a little too early for me to run because right now, unfortunately, our country is so divided,” Freedom said. “Once you get into politics, you lose 50% of the people. So when the time is right, I’m definitely thinking about it- maybe 26 or 28, more likely 28.”
Freedom has spent time with lawmakers in the past after being outspoken about foreign policy issues regarding China and Turkey, the country where he did much of his growing up. He says that many of those who work on Capitol Hill have urged him to become a politician, adding that his voice could reach a large enough audience to make a significant change.
Kanter also traveled to FreedomFest last week, a conservative conference held in Memphis, Tennessee, to discuss the platform that he will someday use as his campaign talking points. Kanter said, “I will say definitely education, number one, because if you want of a better and brighter future, we have to educate our kids. And I just want to show people that how blessed and how good we have it in this country. Freedom’s definitely the other thing that I’m going to be working on and also bringing awareness.”
Freedom, who spent his younger years living in Turkey, is no stranger to living in a country where he doesn’t have the freedom to express his beliefs. The final part of his platform is to fight back against the censorship that he says is present in America today and push the country further away from becoming a dictatorial nation.
“The third one, you know, we have a lot of censorship in this country,” Freedom explained, “and we got to do whatever we can to beat that. So I’m just going to do whatever I can to just, you know, get rid of that.” Given his unique understanding of the dangers of censorship, Kanter is in a prime position to finally drive the message home to the everyday American that censorship should become a key issue for voters.
While Americans often don’t think censorship affects them in daily life, the slow creep of government control is something to be feared as much as any other political issue. Through Enes Kanter Freedom, conservative Americans may soon have a voice in Congress that is willing to push back aggressively against government overreach.
