Appearing on Fox News Channel’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” which is managing to do reasonably well as a show despite the channel’s firing of Tucker Carlson, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis called out Vice President Kamala Harris’ attempts to smear Florida’s history curriculum by pushing a “false narrative” about it.
Speaking to Jesse Watters about what Kamala did when she traveled to Florida to attack the governor and how his state teaches history, particularly what it teaches its young pupils about and in what light issues are presented, DeSantis said she knew she was lying but did so anyway even as far more important issues come to a head.
In his words: “She hopped on that plane very quickly on Friday to come down to Florida to spew this hoax. She wasn’t going down to the border to actually do the job there to secure it. She wasn’t working on all the cities that are decaying because of Soros-backed prosecutors. She’s not worried about the military running low on ammo and weapon stocks. No, she’s here to try to push a fake narrative about what Florida did.”
Continuing, DeSantis described the Florida history program as being “just the truth,” not a sneaky, narrative-pushing device. He said: “There is no agenda here. It is just the truth. And they talk in gory detail a lot of the bad in American history, including, of course, the injustice of slavery.”
DeSantis then returned to the topic of Kamala pushing a hoax, arguing, “But she is trying to perpetuate a hoax. And I know they’re using it to attack me because Biden’s administration, Harris, has been attacking me since they got in office and they’re always attacking Florida.”
Harris, for reference, argued when she traveled to Florida that the state’s new, state-wide Black history curriculum is one that replaces “history with lies.” Continuing, she claimed that middle-school students in Florida will be “told that enslaved people benefited from slavery.” DeSantis has described that characterization as false.
But Harris’ attempts to smear his state’s history program wasn’t all that DeSantis discussed with Watters. He also argued that Republicans would be right to impeach President Joe Biden over the accusations of corruption and influence peddling through his son Hunter and brother James.
Speaking about that, DeSantis said, “They impeach Trump for a phone call. Are you trying to tell me Biden’s conduct isn’t as significant as that? It’s way more significant. So, they are absolutely within their rights to do that. I think… the corruption that’s surrounding this family is really unprecedented in the modern history of our country.”
He added that “the lack of interest on this from the FBI and the Department of Justice– it shows you weaponization,” a topic about which the GOP base has been banging the drums for years while few in the GOP other than Reps. Gaetz, Green, Boebert, Comer, and Jordan show any real interest in combatting or at least investigating.
