God made man, but Sam Colt made them equal, as the saying goes. In a recent incident in Chicago, such was proven yet again when one of three men was armed and, because he was carrying a firearm, able to fight off an armed robber that approached with a drawn weapon and demanded the cash of those standing around.
According to CBS, three men, aged 26, 33, and 31, were standing near a car at 3:30 am in the West Devon Avenue area of Chicago’s Far North Side. At that point, they were approached by a man with a drawn handgun who stomped toward them and demanded their property at gunpoint.
Two of the men standing around complied, grabbing their wallets and other items and beginning to fork them over to the robber with the handgun.
But not everyone was willing to just hand over his hard-won property. Rather than be a victim, the individual with a concealed carry firearm drew his weapon and opened fire on the would-be armed robber. Firing multiple shots in the direction of the attacker, the concealed carry holder struck him in the torso multiple times and hit him with a grazing wound to the head. The attempted armed robber is now in critical condition in Chicago’s St. Francis Medical Center.
Fox News Digital, adding context to the story, noted that this is the latest in a series of incidents where individuals with concealed carry licenses stopped violent crimes in the Windy City, saying, “Fox News Digital previously reported there were at least 44 incidents between 2020 and February 2023 where concealed carry or licensed gun owners stopped an attack or crime.”
However, unlike red states, Illinois, particularly the city of Chicago, is not friendly to those that use violence to stop crime. Such was shown when murder charges were brought against a mom and her teen after the teen grabbed the mother’s firearm and used deadly force to defend his mother from a man who was videoed punching her before the boy intervened.
Their attorney, Brandon Brown, savaged the city’s decision to prosecute a boy for defending his mother in a statement, saying, “You don’t have to be a lawyer to appreciate and recognize that when a woman is violently attacked by a man – an unarmed woman – that she shouldn’t be arrested. And if any one of you were to replace Carlishia Hood with your mother, with your sister, with your daughter; if your mother, or sister, or daughter were attacked in a restaurant when she’s trying to order a cheeseburger, would you expect that she would be arrested?”
Prosecutors have since dropped the charges against Hood and her son. However, Hood followed the shocking incident with a lawsuit against the city and officers who arrested her over claims of malicious prosecution, false arrest, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
