Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas is no stranger to controversy. The electric guard who played his collegiate basketball at the University of Arizona spoke on the VLAD TV show to talk about the LGBTQ community and what he sees as the unfair treatment that it displays on non-members.
Arenas went on this epic rant as he tried to explain that the “playbook” of the LGBTQ community seems to be changing and evolving, causing those that are not constantly in the know to face cancellation attempts and other woke nonsense as they use what the left considers to be insensitive or outdated terms.
“They have a playbook that only they are playing by, that they can only see,” said Arenas, “no one else gets to see this playbook, but we’re being judged by everything that’s in this playbook, but we don’t know it.” This frustration is also felt by others in the entertainment industry who constantly must watch what they say or be on the receiving end of a woke storm.
But, as Arenas pointed out, how can one know what to say when the criteria are ever-changing and far from easy to learn? Without being a member of one of the groups that fall under the LGBTQ umbrella, it is near impossible to stay up to date on the lingo that they will consider “violent” vs. what words are acceptable.
“So, it’s like, there is no open dialogue about what is appropriate and what’s not,” Arenas continued. “We only find out after we f*** up and that’s unfair. That’s f***ing unfair you can’t do that. Just words, phrases like he, she, it, they. We don’t f***ing know. How do we know? You’re making it up as you go,” Arenas just explained the situation incredibly succinctly, especially for a guy who used three f-bombs in the span of about ten seconds.
In one final sentence, Arenas gave a short explanation of his complaint on this subject. “It’s unfair that you can cancel somebody on a playbook that only you have.” To me, that seems fair enough. If he and I and everyone else are going to be judged by your rules, LGBTQ community, it seems only fair that we get to see them first. These cancellation attempts come years after something was said to have gotten far out of hand.
It’s not like Arenas is afraid of the consequences of his actions. While playing for the NBA’s Washington Wizards, Arenas was arrested and suspended by the league for bringing an unloaded gun into the team’s facility. Other legends of Arenas’ deviancy as a young man litter the internet. One former teammate, in particular, shared a story of Arenas skipping the conditioning portion of the NBA’s pre-draft screening because he was afraid to scuff his new sneakers on the league’s treadmill.
Regardless of the antics of the younger version of Gilbert Arenas, it seems that he has made a point that many Americas will strongly agree with, hopefully for years to come.
