Democrats have made the overturning of Roe their focal point for the 2022 midterm elections, and it’s turning into an utter disaster. The American people have real issues to contend with like rising crime and rising inflation, not some manufactured crisis about women losing rights.
Look, polls show a majority of Americans don’t want the Democrats’ dream of limitless abortion on demand. We already know that. And now, we clearly see Americans don’t want to watch a movie that glorifies the abortion industry.
Elizabeth Banks’ latest movie is an unmitigated disaster across the board. Despite an aggressive ad spend and the featuring of Hollywood legend Signourney Weaver, the film flopped hard. It flopped so hard it made the gay romance “comedy” Bros look like a box office success.
Bros was abysmal; it earned about $550 per theater on its opening weekend. But Call Jane is just trash. It pulled in an anemic $224 per theater on opening weekend, setting up an embarrassingly low $240,000 on opening weekend. Let’s just say it will not recoup its budget spend.
Breitbart summarized the film, which sounds less like a movie plot and more like a two-hour propagandist production:
Call Jane is a dramatization of the Jane Collective that provided illegal abortions during the late 60s and early 70s. Banks plays a suburban housewife who seeks an abortion due to a heart condition that puts her life at risk. She crosses paths with the “Janes,” whose leader (Weaver) becomes a friend.
Already, the plot is disingenuous. If a mother’s life is truly at risk, there are exceptions in nearly every state. Having to choose between mother and child is not a thing. Whether speaking about the issue through a moral or legal framework, if a mother is truly threatened by her pregnancy, there are options.
But let’s be real: The pro-abortion industry is not concerned with the rare eceptions. They want to portray every abortion as life or death, when the reality is the vast majority are purely elective.
Breitbart continued its reportage by noting that Banks actually learned how to perform an abortion. As bad as the idea of abortion is, a normal person that learns how to perform one and doesn’t immediately get repulsed is a true monster. Breitbart wrote:
Call Jane‘s woeful box-office showing follows an aggressive publicity blitz that featured screenings at abortion clinics around the country in a bid to capitalize on lingering left-wing outrage over the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade. Elizabeth Banks even told Vanity Fair that she learned how to perform abortions for the film.
“I didn’t actually ever get to dilate anybody,” she told the magazine. “I got to learn about the tools, watch the videos. But the procedure that we performed from 1968, there are similarities to it now but it is not the exact same,” she says. “Most abortions now are self-managed via two pills.”
How sanitized. Nowadays, most abortions are performed by pills, meaning no one has to witness the appalling act of ending a human life. And feminists think this is progress.
