Oklahoma’s Rep. Josh Brecheen just unveiled legislation, the Patriotism Not Pride Act, which would prohibit the federal agencies from promoting Pride Month or similar celebrations, along with forbidding the display of pride flags on federal property.
The bill itself provides that it would “prohibit certain Federal activity with respect to the promotion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month and the display of flags representing sexual orientation or gender identity on Federal property or grounds, and for other purposes.“
It adds, “No Federal funds may be used by an agency to develop, organize, administer, engage in, promote, or endorse any activity, including any event, initiative, official communication, social media post, educational program, or public campaign, that aims to promote or recognize Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month or any event with a similar theme.”
Continuing, the act then adds, “No flag that represents sexual orientation or gender identity may be displayed by an agency on Federal property or grounds.”
In a statement about the Patriotism Not Pride Act to Breitbart News, Rep. Brecheen said that the government should be promoting patriotic things rather than social causes of the sort beloved by the radical left.
Speaking on that, Rep. Brecheen said, “Americans want to see the Stars and Stripes flown at our federal buildings, which thousands of Americans have died fighting to protect, not flags promoting sexual preference. Our federal government should be promoting patriotism and love for our country, instead of advancing a far-left social agenda.”
Tweeting out that article, Rep. Brecheen said, “Americans want to see the Stars and Stripes flown at our federal buildings, which thousands of Americans have died fighting to protect, not flags promoting sexual preference.”
Similarly, Rep. Glenn Grothman, one of the bill’s cosponsors, said that the American flag is a symbol of unity and important American values, values that made America the wealthiest and one of the freest nations on Earth, whereas the Pride flag stands for a divisive and radical social agenda that many Americans find offensive.
As Rep. Grothman put it: “The American flag is symbolic of the freedoms and values of the United States of America on the world stage. Conversely, the LGBTQ flag promotes a sexual agenda and clearly lacks the dignity to be placed under an American flag. It is obvious that government buildings flying the flag that is connected to a sexual identity is offensive to the majority of Americans.”
The Patriotism Not Pride Act’s co-sponsors are Representatives Matt Rosendale, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Glenn Grothman, Andy Ogles, Barry Moore, Tim Burchett, Lauren Boebert, Anna Paulina Luna, Mary Miller, Eric Burlison, Alex Mooney, Gary Palmer, Bob Good, Michael Cloud, Nathaniel Moran, Ralph Norman, and Andy Biggs.
