A 69-year-old Democrat Senator of Rhode Island was arrested for a crime he claimed he was ‘dared’ to do. It was Sen. Josh Miller who was busted and charged under suspicion that ‘keyed’ someone’s SUV in a parking lot one afternoon after someone he had a conflict with allegedly dared him to do it in a verbal spat that turned into vandalism issue.
Cranston police say the owner of the SUV claimed they were on the way back to their vehicle when they allegedly heard a ‘loud scratching noise’ and suspected the Democrat senator of breaking the law by vandalizing the vehicle with a key and scratching the paint job. The SUV’s owner claimed they saw the long scratch on the door of the vehicle and asked the man, identified as Dem. Sen. Joshua Miller, if they were responsible for the action. Miller denied it and left the scene.
The owner of the SUV didn’t realize who Miller was at first, but said they looked him up because the car next to him had a bumper sticker that said “Re-Elect Josh Miller” and it seems like they wanted to know if there was any connection or political motivation. Upon looking up the sticker, they noticed the man they saw near their SUV, with a key in hand, after hearing a loud scratching noise – was in fact Democrat Senator Josh Miller.
They notified police who then located the Democrat Senator and questioned him about the alleged car-keying incident that took place around 3:30 in the afternoon in a parking lot. Miller denied it for the second time, this time to police. However, the story slowly began escalating and eventually changed completely. Miller said the SUV owner was threatening him. Miller also said he thought the owner of the SUV was one of those “gun nuts” who was stalking him over at the State House, according to a crime report on WPRI that provided all the information on the criminal act by a Democrat senator.
Miller then added more information to his story. He claims the SUV owner knew who he was because of all the gun safety legislation pushed by Democrats. It sounds like there’s potential history between the two, but it’s unknown if they know each other on a personal level. Then the crime story gets more interesting. Police brought the SUV owner back to the alleged crime scene and they confirmed Miller was in fact the man near their vehicle.
This is where the story goes really bad for Sen. Miller. The police were able to locate a surveillance video. Upon watching it, they confirmed that Democrat Senator Miller was indeed near the car and the so-called victim’s story matches what happened on the surveillance video. Police went to Miller’s house, showed him the evidence, and now it’s getting worse for the Democrat. Sen. Miller knows he’s potentially caught and the story morphs out of denial and into damage control.
The now disgraced Democrat Senator admits to keying the car, but says the SUV owner ‘dared him’ to do it. Regardless of the dare, keying someone’s car can still be considered vandalism punishable by law. Democrat Senator Josh Miller was booked into custody and faces a misdemeanor vandalism charge. Miller, after being arrested and charged, was released on $1,000 and has court in July.
Joe Powers, Chairman of the Rhode Island GOP, spoke about the incident on Twitter, saying: “This behavior is unbecoming of anyone holding a leadership position. State Senator Joshua Miller has proven once again the he does not have the composure required to represent every constituent in his district and must resign immediately.”
Amanda Pitts, reporter for WPRI12 stated the following: “Surveillance video shows the moments Senator Josh Miller is accused of keying an SUV with an anti-Biden sticker at Garden City He first tells Cranston PD he didn’t do it, then when they show up at his house and say they have video, he admits to it.”
Crime is out of control in some places. Even CNN reporters are being robbed if they park in the wrong place.
