Jordan Poyer, the All-Pro safety for the Buffalo Bills and a well-known advocate for mental health in the Buffalo area, was forced to cancel his upcoming charity golf event later this week. Despite the event being held at the exact same course, Trump National Doral in Florida, as it was last year, the charity’s main benefactor and partner, the Erie County Medical Center, withdrew for political reasons.
It is a sad statement on the political landscape in America that a fun event being held to benefit less fortunate people with mental health challenges can’t take place because of the name on the golf course.
That name is, of course, Donald Trump. Poyer’s representatives, Avalon Sports, released a statement: “We would like to inform the general public and media outlets that the Jordan Poyer Celebrity Tournament scheduled to take place on July 10th has been rescheduled for next year. The tournament is a charitable initiative that Jordan has been working on for the past 6 months. Our main goal was to raise funds for the Buffalo community.”
“Unfortunately, we were sadly surprised by negative comments by some individuals to make this a political battle and continue to divide our community. We condemn any type of violence and stand by Jordan as he continues to work to make a positive impact and be a role model for our community.”
Wow this unbelievable! Woke companies canceled their sponsorship of a charity golf tournament hosted by NFL superstar Jordan Poyer because he was having it at a Trump course. 😡 Good for Jordan for calling them out!https://t.co/lm1rY3BtEB

Poyer, an outspoken supporter of former President Trump, for his part, doesn’t blame the Erie County Medical Center for withdrawing its support. He suspects they caved to pressure from above with their decision: “They decided they didn’t want to take part in my tournament in which they took part in last year because of where it’s at, at Trump National Doral in South Florida. ECMC decided they can no longer take the pressure from up top, from the people above them, and it probably has nothing to do with ECMC at all.”
Poyer and his wife, Rachel Bush simply saw a need in the Buffalo area for expanded mental health services and sought to help fill that need through their charity and golf event. Even though the event took place at the exact same course as last year, with the 2024 election approaching, he left simply didn’t want anything good connected to president trump’s name.
Unfortunately, liberals are more concerned with virtue signaling rather than offering any real solutions to the issues that divide the country. Poyer continued: I’m not naive. I understand where they are on the political spectrum, where New York is on the political spectrum. Do I agree with a lot of it? No, I don’t. I’m sorry, but I don’t. … I say the quiet part out loud a lot and some of you don’t like that. My bad. I still went and put my ego aside and went to go help those who needed help or needed a laugh.”
Poyer joined the Bills in 2017 and immediately became a locker-room leader and fan favorite. He was an All-Pro in 2021 and a Pro-Bowler in 2022. he also signed a two-year extension in the off-season to remain in Buffalo and is a key piece defensively if the Bills are to challenge for a Super Bowl.
He is also widely supported by his teammates. Gabe Davis, Josh Allen, and Reid Ferguson, among others, have expressed their support for Poyer despite several golfers pulling out for political reasons as well.
Jordan’s wife, Rachel Bush, issued a statement as well: “The event was cancelled due to the arrogance of others, and then backing out last minute leaving us in a difficult spot to make everything happen properly. Especially while we are on a family vacation.. We want it to be great and next year it will be outstanding! Thank you!
“And huge thank you to Trump & all the amazing sponsors (literally so many!!) that offered to sponsor the tournament. We appreciate you all! As well as the fans and supporters! Right left whatever hopefully next year we can all come together for a good cause! Location aside..love!”
The Erie County Medical Center and the residents of Buffalo are the ultimate losers in this scenario. Being pressured to withdraw their support simply because outside forces don’t like the man that owns the golf course is a sad statement on how the left has divided our country. Hopefully, Jordan Poyer and Rachel Bush won’t give up on the less fortunate in Buffalo, and they can restart their charity event next year with less political interference from the left.
