Former President Donald Trump recently gave his thoughts on the plea deal reached between Hunter Biden and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware. Trump alleged the justice system is “corrupt” for allowing the president’s son only to be punished in what amounts to a “traffic ticket.”
The American Tribune covered the plea agreement, which was struck on Tuesday. Hunter Biden will plead guilty to two federal charges related to tax violations and a third pertaining to a form filed for the purchase of a firearm. President Biden’s son was being investigated for felony tax evasion and lying on the form to purchase the gun. Reportedly, the plea deal will reduce the charges to misdemeanors.
Hunter’s attorney claims this plea deal will end the legal investigations into Hunter Biden. The attorney said in a statement, “With the announcement of two agreements between my client, Hunter Biden, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Delaware, it is my understanding that the five-year investigation into Hunter is resolved.”
Former President Trump was not pleased with this outcome considering what he and his family have been through legally in the past few years. “They gave him a traffic ticket and cleared everything up,” Trump said after the plea deal was announced. “It is a disgrace to the system, it is a disgrace to America, it is a very unfair situation, it is prosecutorial misconduct, and it is election interference — all wrapped up into one.”
Meanwhile, Trump recently pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges related to the classified documents case against him. The former president alleged that if any of his children were under a similar investigation to Hunter Biden, their treatment would be drastically different. Trump continued, “This is a corrupt justice system and a corrupt FBI.”
Reports indicate that had Hunter Biden not entered the plea agreement, he would have faced a maximum punishment of 12 months in prison for each of the two tax violations and a maximum imprisonment of 10 years on the firearm charge. Trump alleged that his family members would face “hundreds of years” if convicted of crimes.
President Biden previously spoke about Hunter’s legal troubles and its implications for his presidency. “My son has done nothing wrong. I trust him. I have faith in him and it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him,” Biden said. However, the guilty plea indicates otherwise, that he did do something wrong, committing several crimes.
However, Republicans are not backing down from investigations into the Biden family after the plea agreement. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy indicated that House Republicans are still investigating the business dealings of the Biden family. McCarthy said, “Now, this does nothing to our investigation. It actually should enhance our investigation, because the DOJ should not be able to withhold any information now saying that there’s a pending investigation. They should be able to provide [House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer] with any information that he requires.” It will be interesting to see what comes about from the House investigations
