Billionaire George Soros, detested by many on the right for his support of far-left causes and backing of soft-on-crime District Attorneys, is about to hand off his $25 billion empire to his son, Alexander Soros. That’s something of a surprise, as many doubted that George Soros, 92, would ever give up control, and because he indicated he didn’t want to hand off control to a child of his, saying, “I didn’t want the foundation to be taken over by one of my children, as a matter of principle. I thought it should be managed by someone who is best suited.”
In any case, Alex’s accession to the throne of the Soros Empire likely means the money will be used on even more far-left causes, as 37-year-old Alexander described himself as “more political” to the Wall Street Journal.
Soros was already quite political, having spent over $120 million in the 2022 midterms alone in an effort to help the Democrats preserve their seats in the two houses of Congress. But, Alex seems set to take the family empire in an even more far-left direction, with the WSJ reporting that Alex Soros is set to back both leftist politicians and causes like “voting and abortion rights, as well as gender equity.” He is, however, less hostile to free speech than some on the left, saying, “I have some differences with my generation in regard to free speech and other things—I grew up watching Bill Maher before bed, after all.”
The likely mechanisms which Alex will use to direct money toward leftist causes are the family non-profti, the Open Society Foundations, and the Soros-backed super PAC, “Democracy PAC.” Soros has used Democracy PAC back-to-back DAs and others in an attempt to, as the WSJ puts it, “reduce incarceration rates and racial bias in the justice system.” In other words, they used it to back soft on crime DAs that have left cities fester and become centers of crime and squalor.
Alex, who has met with President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, President Lula of Brazil, and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, said that the Soros organizations would be spending heavily in the 2024 election season, saying, “As much as I would love to get money out of politics, as long as the other side is doing it, we will have to do it, too.”
Though his son might be even more political and to the left, George Soros is no stranger to supporting far-left causes. In fact, Elon Musk compared Soros to a comic book villain when he tweeted, “Soros reminds me of Magneto.” He later followed that up, saying, “I’d like apologize for this post. It was really unfair to Magneto.”
That’s when a journalist, Brian Krassenstein, tried to defend Soros and said, “Fun fact: Magneto’s experiences during the Holocaust as a survivor shaped his perspective as well as his depth and empathy. Soro, also a Holocaust survivor, get’s attacked nonstop for his good intentions which some Americans think are bad merely because they disagree with this political affiliations.”
Musk didn’t back down. Instead, he said, “You assume they are good intentions. They are not. He wants to erode the very fabric of civilization. Soros hates humanity.”
Predictably,Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the ADL, went on the attack against Musk for that. “Soros often is held up by the far-right, using antisemitic tropes, as the source of the world’s problems,” Greenblat tweeted. “To see Elon Musk, regardless of his intent, feed this segment — comparing him to a Jewish supervillain, claiming Soros ‘hates humanity’ — is not just distressing, it’s dangerous: it will embolden extremists who already contrive anti-Jewish conspiracies and have tried to attack Soros and Jewish communities as a result.”
Soo if George Soros is already drawing attacks and his son is set to get even more involved in spending the empire’s money on leftist causes, we’ll see how upset Americans react.
