A new storyline has been brought to light in the aftermath of Cameron Robbins’ disappearance. The teen has been in the news over recent days following his daring stunt, which saw him jump off the deck of a cruise ship and disappear into the night’s waters near the island of Nassau.
Initial reports indicated that Robbins took the leap off the boat as a part of a dare. Inspired by peer pressure, he would up sending himself to his untimely demise. Now, According to Fox News, some other teens who were aboard the boat were urging Robbins to ignore the dare and to stay out of the water.
The mother of one student, who remains anonymous, said that he and a few others of Robbins’ friends tried to grab hold of the teen and keep him aboard the ship. Robbins, as can be seen in video footage of the accident, broke free and made his way overboard, leading to a story that has not been told across nearly all media outlets.
The mother of the teen who tried to save Robbins explained the situation may have partially been due to alcohol, saying, “This was a booze cruise, and they were on their way back when this happened. My son texted me when it happened, saying, ‘Cameron jumped off. They can’t find him.’ They were out there until 2, 3 in the morning. ”
She went on to say that the entire group was cold and miserable due to the bad weather that had hit the area. “It was terrible weather that night. The kids were cold, wet and traumatized. The girls were in bikinis and bathing suits. The guys were giving them their shirts. It was a bad time to bring drunk 18-year-olds out into waters near this island where there’s nothing.”
Many people have speculated online about the fate that Robbins met, with one popular theory being that the teen was taken by sharks shortly after his descent into the ocean. As The American Tribune reported, Royal Bahamas Defense Force Commodore Raymond King made a note of the shark-infested nature of those same waters in a press release:
“I can tell you that area where an individual reportedly jumped over, it’s an area that is really shark-infested as well. It is so unfortunate but I don’t want the family to lose hope.”
Now, however, that theory is being quieted by Brain Trascher who spoke on behalf of the United Cajun Navy, saying, “None of the experts consulted can definitely say what’s in the video due to the quality and length of the video. The Robbins family has requested that we not entertain that theory any longer, so our official position is that we don’t know what happened while Cam was in the water.”
Despite the horrific fate that Robbins likely met, many parents with students aboard the ship will be proud that their children attempted to stop the teen from making his egregious mistake.
