Law enforcement officials in Columbus, Ohio have arrested a suspect in the horrific and fatal shooting of a man from the Akron area in what is being called a road rage incident which unfolded on I-76 Norton in the early part of May, according to a report from WKYC.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot confirmed news of the arrest with the outlet, revealing that Dacarrei Tovon Kinard was caught in Columbus Wednesday afternoon by a group of law enforcement agents known as the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team, or SOFAST, working in partnership with the SWAT Team from the Columbus Police Department. Kinard was taken into custody in connection with the shooting death of George “Geo” Jensen on May 17.
The suspect was apprehended without incident.
“The Norton Police Department worked nonstop to gather information, follow up on tips from the public, and ultimately make an identification for this suspect,” Elliott revealed in a statement on the arrest.
Authorities said that Jensen, the victim in the incident, was traveling east on I-76 when the suspect, in another vehicle fired a series of gunshots at his vehicle. The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that the victim’s car came to a complete stop after it came into contact with the concrete median. Jensen was transported to a hospital in Akron suffering from a gunshot wound where he later succumbed to his injuries.
“Before the shooting, there appeared to be a road rage incident between the victim and another driver in a black 2018 or newer Chevy Camaro as the two traveled on Interstate 76,” according to information that was divulged by the Norton Police Department. “The driver of the Camaro fired multiple gunshots toward the victim’s car as it drove past.”
Local police stated that the driver of the Camaro was last spotted fleeing the area on I-76 East.
Just last week, the Ohio State Highway Patrol put out bodycam footage that showed the damage caused during the incident. You can see troopers approaching the victim’s Mazda 3 and then opening the vehicle’s doors. A few individuals who witnessed the shooting pulled over to give the police a statement, noting that they saw both drivers weaving their way through traffic, cutting each other off, just before the shooting took place.
