Former president Donald Trump got cheated out of both his original presidency and the effort to try for a second, Megyn Kelly argued on a podcast recently with Dave Rubin. Further building on that idea, the former Fox News host opined that this perception will make it nearly impossible for Ron DeSantis to clear the hurdle in any GOP primaries – assuming he even wants to take on Trump.
In response, Trump jumped on his social media company Truth Social and stated “I agree!” with the comment.

I don’t even think that [DeSantis has a shot] a little. I think Trump sucks up all the energy in every room, no matter what. And even someone as skilled as a politician and smart policy wise, as DeSantis can’t overcome that.
You really think the hardcore Maga is going to abandon Trump or DeSantis? They’re not. They like DeSantis. But they don’t think it’s his turn. They think Trump was screwed out of his last election, that he screwed out of his first term, by all the craziness, the Russia gate and so on. And they think he’s entitled, he deserves another shot at it. Like the hardcore Trump faithful. He’s unshakable.
They like DeSantis. But they would never cross Trump for him and they think that DeSantis owes his political career to Trump. Like if forced to choose, they will choose Trump, so DeSantis can’t take them down.
It’s like the line in WarGames: The only winning move is not to play. DeSantis has got to either be crowned by Trump or you shouldn’t run you won’t win over Trump. I’ll stand by that you can play it against me if I’m wrong, but I won’t be.
Kim Iversen, the rarest breed of honest journalist out there (if you don’t know her, she’s worth looking up), chimed in on the Posobiec tweet and offered this corollary to Kelly’s viewpoints:
I think many people, not just “hardcore MAGA” feel Trump was screwed and deserves another shot. Even if they don’t think the election itself was stolen, there was so much bias against Trump in the media and within the establishment that it was effectively similar.
It’s an interesting take for sure, and one that I find compelling. Barring some disaster, it also seems irrelevant, because I cannot imagine a scenario where Donald Trump doesn’t run. He has hinted at it too many times, often repeating at rallies that “we might just have to do it again” and as Kelly points out, he has a huge following and base.
Trump might turn off some voters, but he has enough to forge ahead. And honestly, if suburban women are still hung up on a non-issue comment dating back decades and would prefer to vote for more Democrat destruction, that’s on them at this point. They virtue signaled and pulled the lever for Biden in 2020, and knowing how that turned out, it’s not Trump’s fault if he runs again and they don’t vote for him.
