Rock ‘n’ Roll legend Tina Turner passed away at the age of 83. Her passing was confirmed by the singer’s official Instagram account in a post that read:
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner. With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
In another post, just two months prior, Tina wrote about the regrets that she had regarding the way she treated her health. On International World Kidney Day, March 9, she posted the following:
“Show your kidneys love! They deserve it. My kidneys are victims of my not realising that my high blood pressure should have been treated with conventional medicine. I have put myself in great danger by refusing to face the reality that I need daily, lifelong therapy with medication. For far too long I believed that my body was an untouchable and indestructible bastion.”
Tina was an icon in the African American rock ‘n’ roll community, with a career that spanned decades and saw wowing success. Breitbart wrote about her wowing legacy, saying:
‘Her hits spanned more than 50 years and included many singles made with Ike Turner, whom she first met in 1957 when she was an unknown talent fresh off the bus from Tennessee. Together, the couple recorded a string of hits included “A Fool in Love,” “Nutbush City Limits,” and their smash sensation version of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary.”’
Tina also understood that her time was coming, according to Entertainment Weekly, when she decided to retire and spend more time with her husband Erwin. Tina said:
“I have been working — really, really working — since I was a teenager. I was ready to retire long before I got sick. I wanted to spend time with Erwin and do the things that normal people do, like work in my garden, stay up late watching movies, and go food shopping. I’ve always had good timing. I didn’t want people to come to a show and think that I used to be great. ‘Leave the party before it’s over,’ I like to say.”
Even Former President Barack Obama chimed in after her passing, Tweeting:
“Tina Turner was raw. She was powerful. She was unstoppable. And she was unapologetically herself—speaking and singing her truth through joy and pain; triumph and tragedy. Today we join fans around the world in honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, and a star whose light will never fade.”
